Seth, for a while this was number 100 ever since I was covering this list. But the funny thing about it is that someone gave a boost to Amon Tobin's album Supermodified. He's now #100.
But I had to give this album a try. And to be honest, this was great. My guess for why this album has a less than favorable score is that this was probably a big album for the radio during that year, so some people were probably annoyed with it during there work shift. Also maybe it is the vocals where they somewhat reek of the post grunge sound that would continue through the decade. But it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe if I was younger I would have been bored since I wasn't that patient. Now for me, I would say if it was a little more atmospheric, I think I would love it more. As of now, it is a 85 but could be a 90.

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band

Unlike many of this albumโ€™s critics, I didnโ€™t find it to be cacophonously unlistenable. In fact, it was generally pretty good. Some parts reminded me of Daniel Johnston without the catchy hooks, and others reminded me of a bizarro world Tom Waits. What holds this album back from being great is quality control. Itโ€™s overly long and too much of that is filler. Much of the experimentation is well-done, but other tracks should have been left on the cutting room floor. Overall Iโ€™m glad I tried it, and Iโ€™ll probably hear it again sometime. 3/5.

Wheels Of Fire by Cream

I really enjoyed this classic 60's rock album. Consistent high quality songs and great guitar solos, just lacking a couple of killer songs. White Room is great but it's no Sunshine Of Your Love. Maybe would have been even better as a compact 9 song album without the live songs, which dragged a bit to be honest, but Crossroads is great and the Ginger Baker drum solo is worth hearing though, so maybe not. I'm really starting to love sixties music as I'm hearing more and more. 8/10, 12/17 for 1968, and 57/90 for the 60's.

Baystate, Tender Prey is one of my favourites.

Ah. The beginning of a new yesteryear. And with this album, I could say this is a really good record. A damn good one at that. Hell maybe even great. But there is the key word because while I do enjoy this album, I'm not super crazy about this. For one, this was definitely part of the style of this record, but the muddy recording of the vocals I feel take me away from the experience the album is trying to present. And number 2, I feel if these songs somewhat end early. Like I feel there could have been another minute and a half on a couple of these songs and I would have a reaction that made me go Damn! While it is more in the vain of that was good.

The good thing about this album is that I could see myself coming back to this and replay it since it is a short album. As well as even when I have my complaints, some songs are still excellent. Hard to Explain being one of the key examples for that. That song is so good. So while my grade would be in the 75-80 range, I do see it improving in the future.

Desertshore by Nico
This is actually pretty fitting for her. I did Chelsea Girl a long time ago and didn't like it. This on the otherhand is great. John Cale's arrangements sound better for her than himself (RE: Paris 1919). 85.

I'll help you wrap up your first project even if those other albums I'd rather listen to 8k times in a row before I would listen to any of those others (whether that's because they are bad or just less known... dunno): American Beauty OST-Thomas Newman... I think I'd only have the guts to do the top 50 of each year and then pull those I know down from the remaining 50 if I were doing your project... but that's me (and that's kinda what I did for my decade project... top 100 and then another 100 from the top 500 or something... it wasn't that methodical... but in that direction).

Out of the three movie scores I got to listen to, this would be my favorite of the three. I haven't watched this movie but for a soundtrack I do like the new age quality to it. Might actually make sense to the context of the film's plot as well as the aesthetic of the film. The only thing I would complain of the album is that I could tell this is a score for a soundtrack rather feeling like it is it's own thing compared to other film scores. Otherwise grade wise I would give it a 90.

Tender Prey by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds

The Mercy Seat is a godlike, transcendent opener. And then, the rest leaves me a little underwhelmed in comparison. It's a really well-made album, but I didn't fully connect with it and felt there were some weaker tracks. I appreciate Nick Cave a lot, but outside Skeleton Tree, his music is a nut I have yet to really crack. 3.5/5.

Oh... had I known that was what that was... I would have recommended it sooner. Glad you liked it. I haven't heard the soundtrack alone, but thought it was great for the movie.

Whats It All About by Live Poets

Another great one. There are some really weird lyrics that kind of make you shake your head, but the talent of the MCs and the tight beats are consistent over the hour long run time. Could have probably cut a couple tracks though. This album has a real darkness over a lot of the tracks that also elevates it above some of the other competition from this list. Did I already say another group had a Cannibal Ox vibe? Because I'm getting some of that on this album as well.

Sidenotes: There's a rapper in this group named JD Walker; I added one of his albums awhile ago.

The last two albums have come from one of the best channels on youtube. There are multiple channels that start with "Rare and Unfamiliar" and then some kind of genre after it. They're great.

Baystate, lots of good ones to choose, but lets go with cLOUDDEAD. One of many amazing albums featuring Doseone.

Greer - Ill Visions
Red Money- II Much Red
Big 50- Ain't No Turnin' Back
Legend Man- Pressure & Pain
G-Slimm- Fours Deuces & Trays
Mac & A.K.- Westbound (For Riders Only) The EP
Two Illeven- Ounce of Game
Tha Kompound- Recognize Where The Funk Lyes - We Got 'Em All
Lil Gangsta P- Meet the Lil Gangsta
Rascalz- Really Livin'
