Lisbon is a live improvised performance, like Persian Surgery Dervishes, so that may make you think about it differently from a composition standpoint. I like that it's short, and, although I've never really thought of it as a post rock buildup, I guess that's probably a reason to. I love GYBE, but I get why people don't.

A home recording from the 70's that wasn't releaseed until 2006, apparently after J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr got his hands on it. A very nice folky album, she has a very nice folky voice, with some very nice folky accoustic guitar playing. I really did get a vibe of after a dinner party (or something similar) just sitting back and listening to a friend play some songs they wrote. Very nice, but I guess just too nice to be anything I would really be interested in listening to a lot of - unless it was after a dinner party (or something similar) and I was just sitting back and listening to a friend play some songs they wrote.. 7/10 and 17/20 for 2006.

French Black Metal is a whole 'nother ballgame. Vlad Tepes, although seemingly recorded through a Fisher Price Microphone (it's Lo-fi to the max) the playing and songwriting were still somewhat competent. Well, keep that same low-level of recording, and add in a drummer that's scarcely more talented than the one from "The Shaggs", and you have an interesting combination brewing. This is music in the raw. Although it's dreary and extreme, I can't help but also hear a DIY punk aesthetic to the whole proceeding as well, which gives it a certain charm that let's me look past some of it's more mediocre moments.
This band, along with Vlad Tepes were part of what was called the "Les Légions Noires". According to the wiki The Black Legions were, "an avant-garde group of French underground black metal musicians and their bands, centered mostly around the city of Brest, in Britanny. The bands involved limited their releases to very small numbers (often just enough to get to the other circle members), and distributed them among friends and close workers."
This both explains the shitty recording, and the lack of musicianship. Making music for your friends is cool. And French black metal is cool too.

It's definitely competent, Blu's flow is great and some of the hooks are really good. That being said, I haven't particularly connected with the stories or the album as a whole. Instrumentals are for the most part good, and I'm sure I'll revisit it in the future and maybe like it more. 7.5/10

I've circumvented the rules. I found all of these albums through searching various charts on RYM or BEA, but it's from my "Watch Later" on youtube. I was putting links to charts in which the albums appeared, but I got lazy. 😁
I'm not any more familiar with techno than I am with house, but this was a great entry point. Mills' rapid-fire mixing is incredible, and the geometric, amorphous soundwalls he generates are insanely fun. The shorter "Segment 3" is out of this world. I had to see him at work, it's really something to behold:

This didn't fully click with me, but I enjoyed it more than I See A Darkness. The warm arrangements and female vocals were good additions. I can see how it's worthy of being in the mellow zone. Question: is the ending to "Then The Letting Go" as gruesome as it sounds? 😲 Or is there a metaphorical meaning I'm missing? 3/5.

Although this is categorized as just Noise and Experimental, I find this to have more in common with the Musique Concrete artists of old. Great snippets of noise and electronic sounds that have seemingly been plucked from the ether. I was surprised at the breadth of different sounds that were on the album, which gave it some variety, while keeping the same atmosphere. Good stuff.

David Rosenboom – Brainwave Music
This is a very cool and highly variable progressive pop album. It gets out of the gate fast with the title track, a dense, exuberant new wave number with some swirling rhythms in heavy traffic, and cool fills beaming around. Hashimoto then makes her classical training quite evident on the track "Anticipation". "Sanctuary" is the highlight for me, probably because it reminds me of the shadowy goth of "Wax and Wane", and is another strong argument for me to move darkwave and anything like it to the front of my queue. I love that aesthetic. "Too Much Money" is a fairly clunky Pere Ubu clone, and the only track I would complain about. It's also the shortest track on the album, so it's a minor complaint. I'd also say something about the vocals; they could have been recorded or mixed just a little bit better. But, that's also a very minor complaint.
Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of new wave, art pop, etc.

So both albums from this chart so far have been from the 70's released in the 2000's 😄 I'm not complaining though. This is a compilation of three of his singles from the 70's plus other songs from that time. Some really good funky soul. Great vocals that seem to have a lot of character to them. An enjoyable listen. 8/10, and 11/35 for 2005.
