Okay.
If you believe Cream's Disraeli Gears to be underwhelming, what does stand as less underwhelming from this period to you? Tell me in a more thoughtful and constructive way other that just "underwhelming" why you think that Disraeli Gears is so worthy of a discard and why it's so overrated. Your replies are just as thoughtful and constructive as mine. So, let's hear it. I'll give you "Blue Condition" and "Mother's Lament", but they had to give Ginger Baker at least a track, and the other one was simply a humorous closing.
Please tell me how underwhelming the work on these tracks was:
Strange Brew
Sunshine Of Your Love
World Of Pain
Dance The Night Away
Tales Of Brave Ulysses
SWLABR
We're Going Wrong
Outside Woman Blues
Take It Back
I want to know what's wrong with these tracks. Seriously. Because more than 50 years and a world full of listeners seem to disagree with your not "in my opinion" opinion. Was Clapton playing below his abilities? Was Jack Bruce not dead on not only with his bass but his lead vocals? Was Ginger Baker mailing it in?
I'm not putting this out there because you may not like the album so much...but "underwhelming cornerstone of the rock canon" makes me just want you to explain yourself. I think that if you are going to put yourself out there as a pompous Scaruffi like thing, then at least explain why.

Okay, first of all I don't think it's worthy of a discard. As I said, I think it's pretty good, and it remains in my music library. To get an idea of which albums of all genres I prefer from 1967 (including many from the rock canon), here is my chart. I enjoy everything on it.

Second, I don't have any criticisms based on technical ability. They're all talented musicians playing well. For me, it's the songwriting that needs improvement, and strength of songwriting is very important to me. Lyrically, it's sometimes bland, such as "We're Going Wrong," "Outside Woman Blues," and "Take It Back." It's also sometimes ridiculous, such as "the rainbow has a beard" and "the picture has a mustache" on "SWLABR." And of course you've already conceded "Mother's Lament."
Third, and most important, whenever I say anything you can consider it an "in my opinion" opinion. I don't believe in objective assessments of music quality, so I don't think I need to tack on "in my opinion" all the time. Personal aesthetic preferences play a heavy role in my evaluations of music. My perspective on music could scarcely be more different than Scaruffi's. Perhaps it was the phrase "rock canon" that made you think otherwise.
Finally, if you ever want me to explain myself, you can just ask. _________________ Join us in the canon game / Add me on RYM

Lol...what’s wrong with someone calling it Underwhelming...let me see another novel on a Polka Artist you dislike and be objective about it...you can’t.
I like the album (minus the radio stuff) and I could sit here and type a 1,000 word bore fest as to why and that’s not going to make one difference to listeners who don’t dig what we do. Don’t sweat opposing tastes and just enjoy the freaking music...
