I'd take most classic prog bands, dental surgeries and literally any krautrock and canterbury scene act over Rush. STILL, if I had to sit down and listen to Rush this is probably my go to. One of my biggest turn offs is Peart's lyrics but Neil never really got more human than his writing on Cygnus part one. The song's mainly the thoughts of a dying astronaut saying goodbye to his loved ones and preparing himself for the end. Sure it's wrapped in schlock but it's their only piece that successfully pleas to my pathos. I'm a sap. Shame how the next album throws that all away when the astronaut wakes up to find that he didn't die, he's on mount olympus and becomes a god by stopping a war. Oof.
Anyway, in the words of the one weird bodybuilder dad in my high school who was an alt-right conspiracy nut:

Rush, '81, best concert of my life - got into a fight, resusscitated a dude, and took home a girl.
Thanks Joe. You certainly did put that seed in me to forever associate Rush with toxic masculinity.
