I'm just into this right now :

Witch by Witch. I think you'll like this, it's on the hard rock side of rock, very good. I only picked it up because I wanted to listen to J. Mascis' "other" band (other than Dinosaur Jr that is), it isn't like Dinosaur Jr at all, but it's quite good to me, and I guess you're more into this type of music than I am. A nice discovery.

Here is "Seer", the first title, Sabbathian I think (well, you know, "Witch"...)

Definitely check out these "new" supergroups:

Chickenfoot - Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Joe Satriani, and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Them Crooked Vultures - John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters & Nirvana), John Homme (Queens of the Stone Age & Kyuss).

Man Raze - Phil Collen (Def Leppard, Girl), Simon Laffy (Girl), and Paul Cook (Sex Pistols)

Most of all, check out...

Black Country Communion - Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeeze), Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham (Bonham, UFO, Foreigner), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater).

Them Crooked Vultures got my curiosity going. A band composed of multiple instrumentalists with talent to burn. 😁

Glad to see this old post revived with a lot of new suggestions. The Hives I've seen live a couple of times (over in their, and my, native Sweden).

Also, returning to this post I notice that some of the original suggestions were great. Most notably Muse who I hadn't listened to at all but who now hold the #43 spot on my band ranking.

I revived it after it just sat there for a year and a half 😁

Try The hives, they're like the strokes but more fun.

I agree with you on The Hives.

Also, IMO, they are also better than The Strokes.

Yeah,The Hives are much better than The Strokes. The only good album The Strokes made was Is This It,the rest just had some good songs."Angles" is dreadful,it gets worse every time I hear it and it's one of the albums I don't want to listen to any time soon.
Julian Casablancas on the other hand is amazing, his debut was one of my favorite albums of 2009.

I don't think rock n' roll is dead,IMO music in general was always at it's finest (at least in the past 60-70 years) but it just gets harder and harder to get to the good stuff...but it's there and in abundance.Let me try:
The White Stripes (I know it has been said to dead)
The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (a must listen, especially their album from last year, too bad they disbanded)
Arctic Monkeys
The Answer
Wolfmother
Volbeat
Gallows (more hardcore punk but worth a listen)
Kasabian
The Hives
White Lies-To Lose My Life (the second album sucks IMO but the first one was brilliant)
Them Crooked Vultures
Muse

And the list goes on and on.
