Weather Report-like bands are always on my radar, those Perigeo guys look cool.

(1)

Don Caballero 2 by Don Caballero
This is my first experience with Don Caballero, and I have to say that they have a unique style. I'm not necessarily too crazy about the album, but the way they mix math rock with noise rock, post rock and experimental is extraordinary. I'll be coming back to this band for sure, and I hope the sound and especially songwriting will grow on me. 7.5/10

To keep things jazzy, go with Kaleidoscope Of Rainbows. It sounds fabulous.

It's been a while and I need to come back and do work/go through years that I wouldn't really care to go to. Wanted to go through 1990 but got somewhat bored. Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps

Quite fitting that I have ended up listening to this on Halloween, and it's not the first time I've listened to The Cramps on Halloween. Last year I just watched a whole bunch of videos on YouTube. I was lucky enough to see them live once, in about 90 or 91, at one of the dingiest live music venues around at the time. A great show. They surely have a sound that you know it's The Cramps whenever you hear them, but I think they get better on their later albums. This is rough and raw like I like but the songs aren't as catchy, fun, and probably as well writtten. Cool version of Fever though. 7.5/10, and 20/37 for 1980.

Welcome back Luigii. In Utero is a must listen.

I honestly didn't know where this top 100 was gonna start. I felt I was gonna get an album I revisited. But that is okay, because In Utero (my first Nirvana album I listened to) is actually great. Hell, I could argue it is close to the realm of being excellent. Songs like Serve The Servants, Scentless Apprentice, Tourette's and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter definitely give a gut punch reaction due to either the noisy structure of the tracks or the performance from Kurt. A key example would be his yell on the second track. Then I would argue where I started to understand the plight on how rock fans somewhat felt "betrayed" where after Kurt's death, post grunge took its place and water down the edge of the genre. Because, what I noticed "you might agree" that In Utero not only hits a punk itch, some of the guitar work definitely hits a metal itch.

Also, there were other qualities that did impress me like how the outro while doesn't go there completely, does has some nods to shoegaze. Or Milk It where near the tail end of the track, there was a moment of Kurt's vocals that got to make me laugh with him, where I saw that glimmer of him being happy. So, in conclusion, we started up strong. Not the strongest. There is a part of me that doesn't want to give glowing praise just yet. I think there will be better rock albums from 1993. And while I did enjoyed the experience, I wouldn't say it hits a 10/10 experience. Maybe Heart-Shaped Box fits that? But a definite contender for 1993.

Grade:85 but is on the cusp of a 90. Aw its good to be back.

Radio by LL Cool J

I definitely see why this one is considered an early hip-hop classic. Rick Rubin brings his hard-hitting rock-oriented production and LL Cool J matches it with hard-hitting flows and lyrics. Much of this album simply slaps. The first track and Rock The Bells deserve their classic status, and there are at least three more great tracks, plus some other good ones to boot. The problem is that when Radio is bad, it can get really bad. None of the three tracks where he primarily raps about women are good, and Dear Yvette is particularly dire. So unfortunately, it's not a consistent record, but there are plenty of bangers to be found, and Radio is a fun listen overall. 3.5/5.

So when I posted the beginning for this list, I had a guess game where I wanted to see who would pick what. I thought Chief would pick Bjork or Slowdive, Round would pick Pearl Jam, Pash would pick Smashing Pumpkins and lastly Bay would pick Midnight Marauders. And best album of 1993? That is debatable. Though giving this a re listen, and damn this is a lot better than I remember. And on the first listen I thought it was an excellent but this hasn't lost its luster. I would say for the most part Tribe made a rocket and used Butter as the launchpad. Because this album sound wise sounds like how the sunsets to night time and the beginning of the sunrise. The Rhodes. As well as songs like Midnight or The Chase pt 2 or Lyrics to Go have this ambient quality that you connect the lineage to Atliens. Now I say the most part, because if there was a weak link to the album, it probably be Oh My God.

Now before you go off, I enjoy Oh My God. Busta's mantra is not only intoxicating and memeable. As well as Q Tip's bar of being a black intellect but unrefined shows a sense of humbleness, but compared to the rest of the album, this would be that particular track that if I gave this a 100, it would either be a Demi God or False God just because of that track. But yeah that was a fun revisit. And if it plays its cards right, it could be in the top 10. Though depending on how this list rolls out, it might be in the top 20. But an essential record for jazz rap and for the 90's. Grade was a 90 but it is getting up to a 95. Also might prefer this over Low End. Though I will revisit that if I decide to tackle 1991.

Kaleidoscope Of Rainbows by Neil Ardley

"Third Stream" is an interesing genre that gets pulled up from time to time for the albums I listen to. It was first coined in the 50s to describe a combination of Jazz and Classical music. I can certainly say that this album fits the mold, and it also might be one of the best representations of "Third Stream" that I've ever heard. Now, it's not necessarily the elements of Jazz and Classical combined together that make Third Stream, because on this album, they seem to exist apart from one another. There may be a more jazzy passage followed up by a more classical passage or vice versa. When they do combine, it is a wonderful experience. This album made me want to rework my Best Ever albums chart, which I am currently working on.

Right now, I am obsessed with atmosphere. As in, what can this album create for me? What kind of questions does it answer? How does it make me feel? I can say without a doubt that this album makes me feel good. And that's a pretty good thing to feel right about now.

P.S. I'm kinda surprised that this isn't an ECM affiliated record. I'm not familiar with any of the players that are listed for this. I'll have to check out some other stuff that's made by these folks.

You might see this on the overall coming near you.

Luigii, you may have me figured out somewhat, but I recently listened to Siamese Dream and remembered how great it was, so that's my pick for you.

Ambient 2: The Plateaux Of Mirror by Harold Budd & Brian Eno

Some lovely, quiet, peaceful, piano pieces. Created such a quiet atmosphere that I kept feeling like I should turn the volume down to make it even more peaceful. I will keep working on my appreciation of ambient music (heard an ambient album the other day I really liked), but I still have a way to go. 6.5/10

even if only for the title alone...C.O.B. โ€Žโ€“ And The Tartan Lancers Of The Sacred Heart

Disco Volante by Mr. Bungle
Yes, yes and yes. I haven't heard Disco Volante in a bit, but it's an excellent combo listen with the new Mr. Bungle album (which is also pretty kickass). I'm not sure if it's my favourite Mike Patton associated release (that might be Angel Dust), but boy do I love it when Bungle go all in on avant-garde. In fact, I like the incredible mix of experimental rock, avant-garde metal, surf, jazz, noise, brutal prog and several other genres even more than I did a few years ago when I discovered Mr. Bungle. The songwriting is good throughout, but it's an album which catches you off guard and amazes with the amount of absurdity and technical proficiency (and lyrics like "My mom is better than your mom and your dad too"), and not the catchiness. With the exception of The Bends, which has an irritatingly loud buildup, all 1 hour and the hidden track are so much fun to listen to. "Perchรฉ la tua lingua e' mia, mia... MIIIIA!!" 8.5 or 9/10

That's a lot of cool stuff. Go with Kaleidoscope, which I've reviewed a few months back in the game too.
