So this has been the fourth album in the row where I have actually enjoyed myself with a record. I think after listening to this, I think I understand why while I enjoyed myself with Siamese Dream, it comes down to the structure and payoff with each track. I think if there was a complaint would be the opener. Great track, but I do feel the rest hits a higher stride. This is what makes it fun to go through albums from yesteryears. You may not enjoy everything from it. But you can hit on dope albums. And it's dope albums like this that keep me playing. Grade:90. Might be better than Stereolab but might not be. I would have to do some tourney type shit to see where both albums would go.
(2) Bay, you are correct on that. I was being blind on that. Also it is Jet Set Radio time.

Niafunkรฉ by Ali Farka Tourรฉ
Third Ali Farka Toure album for me, and I'm really starting to get a gist of his music. Different as his albums may be, he's always about emotional, bluesy tunes with West African influences (Mande, Songhai, Tuareg...) On Niafunke, the electric blues is combined with some acoustic tracks as well, and the songs are generally shorter than on The River. Which I prefer. The tracklist was solid, and the songs were even more varied than The River. Excellent stuff all around, and while it may not be as good as In the Heart of the Moon, it's better than The River. 8/10

Ah Pablo Honey. So I have all of Radiohead's discography under my belt. And while this album wouldn't be in my top 5 for the band. Albums like In Rainbows and Kid A would be way higher on my personal list. But this is still an excellent album. I was somewhat curious from enjoying other rock albums from 1993 that my enjoyment for Pablo would shrink. And in all honesty, it didn't in a quality sense. I could argue records from Yo La Tengo, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr and other hit higher highs and are more consistent than this. But Pablo Honey has way more highlights than people want to admit. Blow Out being a prime example where there is some form of shoegaze influence that I kind of want to see Radiohead dabble in shoegaze for a future album. Stop Whispering blossoms from a calm rock track and transforms into a somewhat loud rager of a track where I just get lost within the guitar chords And there are plenty of other things I could go into. But that would be it for now. I think the key take away from this album is that this was a budding tree. Might not be a grand statement, but there were cues that the band would go further on in there career. Even if during 1993, it wasn't obvious.
Grade:90 Deservers a way better grade than it has.

Finally hit 20 albums for this year. Also been planning what I will be tackling next. Might decide to go through 1976. Maybe 1985. Might decide to tackle a user list. I might even be a little crazy and tackle page 11 of 1993. But it just depends on what I feel on doing.

Agreed. I still think it's their worst and not a good album overall, but there's several highlights there, not just Creep. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
Here we have gem #2, which it turns out is actually from 2000. This is a fun, energetic romp of a video game soundtrack. Yes, instrumental hip hop is an accurate description of most of it, but it's so much more, almost an everything but the kitchen sink approach in terms of genre. According to RYM, big beat is another primary genre, and that makes this the first big beat album I've heard. The grooves and samples are on point. The pacing and sequencing is great. And the infectiousness makes me grin. A really good record to make dinner to, which is what I did while listening. 4/5.

This is the fourth ATCQ album I've listened to, and the best so far (even if the other three area all rated higher than this one here on BEA). Cool beats, interesting samples, lyrics I have no problem listening to, a positive vibe, and an overall sense of fun that really shines through the whole album. Some catchy songs too, like the opener, Push It Along, Ham 'n' Eggs, and the couple of songs I know really well because they got a lot of radio airplay here at the time, Bonita Applebum and Can I Kick It?. 8/10, and 23/51 for 1990.
I've always wanted to hear some of the relatively early days of hip hop so going with Sugarhill Gang.
