This album sounds very 2004 and very much like its cover. That's not a bad thing, just an observation. This is the first solo album I've heard from Veirs, but I have another one queued up for the 2020 tournament. Instrumentally, Carbon Glacier is very good throughout, and sometimes gorgeous. Vocally, she has a beautiful voice, but much of the time I'm not a fan of her vocal phrasing. In terms of songs, the most crucial element of any singer/songwriter album, they are fairly consistently well-written. However, there aren't many standout tracks, and this is not an especially emotionally moving record. Overall, quite a nice listen, but not something I can see becoming a personal favorite. 3.5/5.

An easily accessible heavy metal album that I could see people that don't really like heavy meta,l like myself, liking. But you know even though this had some elements to it that I would normally like - a traditional doom metal influence, clean vocals, melodic rhythms and riffs - it just didn't click with me. Maybe it felt a bit too tame for it's subject matter? The only song I really liked was Con clavi con Dio. Nothing I outright disliked though. I give it a generous 7/10, and put it at 69/98 in my 2010 chart.
I wasn't too keen on it but lots of people seem to like it so tell us what you think of Swimming bay.

This was great. Probably the most rock-oriented Miles album I've listened to yet. I guess for the soundtrack he played it a bit safer, unlike some other albums of the era when he really went crazy. But that works for this album, the extra talent like John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea (briefly) are all incredible, and Teo Macero's production is top notch. Macero was such an accomplished producer that I sometimes forget he PLAYED with Miles, and so was intimately familiar with his style.
The buildup, setdown, and then buildup again of "Yesternow" is incredible, this might be one of my new favorite Miles tracks. The ultimate conclusion with the spoken word by Jack Johnson is incredible, an amazing capstone to this record.

An incredibly smooth record that matches the title. Miller effortlessly melds singing and rapping over sleek, contemporary production and backing vocals from an all-star cast. The lyrical content is introspective, melancholic, and withdrawn, dealing with topics like addiction, isolation, and disillusionment with fame. There are a number of moving songs, some made more poignant by his untimely death shortly after the album's release. Swimming is a very cohesive album that excels at what it sets out to do. It's probably too much of a downer for me to listen to regularly, but I very much appreciate it as a work of art. 3.5/5.

This is the second album of theirs I've heard and my thoughts are pretty much exactly the same. Some really good retro '70s soul a la Aretha Franklin, worth checking out if that's what you like. Unfortunately despite a fair bit of trying '70s soul still doesn't move me. Can't deny the quality of both Sharon's voice and the instrumentation by the Dap Kings though. 6/10, and 87/99 for 2010.
I think Denzel Curry is always worth checking out, although I tend to prefer his singles and features over his albums (his live studio cover of Bulls On Parade is a must watch/listen).

I vastly preferred this to Velocity : Design : Comfort. Not sure why, they seemed pretty similar but this one just had more crisper production and slightly better beats. Not too much to say I guess, it was very pleasant and kept me drawn in the whole way through. Gonna have to listen to their brand new album now.

I first heard of Caribou only a few years ago with the great Can't Do Without You single. Oh wow! I just checked and that was actually seven years ago now...gee time flies even faster musically. Anyway as much that song grew on me from the high rotation it got on the radio station I was listening to at the time I didn't think it would be my sort of thing album-wise and never followed up on anything of his until his album Suddenly last year, which was decent but still not exactly the sort of music I seek out. I'm glad this got chosen for me now though as this was really good. Interesting sounds throughout the whole thing, not too much repetition so no song overstayed it's welcome and felt too long, nice vocals, and overall a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The opening track Odessa was outstanding, but Sun, Leave House, and Hannibal were also highlights. 8/10, and 34/100 for 2010.
From these choices I would have given you At San Quentin, but I noticed you just listened to that recently. So you have two choices EyeKanFly - you can treat it as somehow psychically knowing I was going to choose it for you so you prepared and listened to it ahead of time, and let us know why you didn't seem to like it anywhere near as much as me...or listen to Jane Doe by Converge. I haven't heard that one but I'm interested to.

Sandwiched between their two most acclaimed records, The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein finds Parliament in a looser, more laidback state. Either because of bad lyrics or grating vocals, they don't fully nail it on any of the first four tracks. But the rest of the album consists of strong p-funk, with the exception of disposable slow jam I've Been Watching You (Move Your Sexy Body). Ultimately, they're in great form on slightly less than half of this, making it a high 3.5/5.

Thanks for providing a link to listen to this. I doubt I would have worked out how to hear it without it. I'm not sure I fully get what it is I'm listening to though. Is it like a DJ set at a party where he is just playing other artists songs, or in this case segments of songs? Admittedly with a theme, and the skill is in choosing what tracks, how they flow after each other and keep the mood and vibe going, and the way they are almost seamlessly put together where it is difficult to hear the exact moment where one song ends and the next starts? If so, then sure, this is done well. But my first problem with this is that I liked a lot of the songs here (but who wouldn't), and playing just a minute or two of each one was like a cruel tease. I want to hear the whole songs. I see there's a playlist on spotify of all these songs in order. I should probably just listen to that instead. Although that goes for three hours. Still would make a decent summer bbq playlist, which I guess is again credit to this mixtape in terms of song selection. Also I love summer and warm weather, and it is the middle of winter here on a cold stormy day...not great timing for this...again a cruel tease 🤣 Oh well, that's not the mixtape's fault. Anyway I still had fun with this for what it is. 6.5/10, and 80/100 for 2010.
