Best Song of 2022 Tournament (Noms Temp. Closed)

cestuneblague · 2023-01-04T22:16:22-05:00

Well as 2022 music has all been released and still wanting to strike while the water's boiling, thought a quick song tournament would be fun and painless. Pretty much going by similiar rules as the previous ones, mainly it's fine if the song was released as a single in 2021 then on an album in 2022, or vice versa, though limit the distance to anything pre-pandemic- so no "Fourth of July", sorry folks. The one difference I think I'll make is a limit on songs per artist, capping it at two, even though I know a particularly popular album each BEAer may have a particular favorite I think it tends to clutter the tournament with too much of one sound as well as in many ways the songs cancelling each other out. And again (mainly directed at Streams) only singular tracks nominated, not entire musical suites. So Again three nominations per user, if we don't get to 64 I might open it up but I'm going to let this thread simmer for a bit in order to get the most interest. RULES *3 songs per user *Okay if it's a 2022 single from a 2020 or 2021 album, or vice versa on an album released this year. *Preferablly songs that were used in the last tournament (20/21) be excluded from this one *No more nominations from an artist that already has two nominations *Please for the love of gawd not the alphabet song, not even as a joke NOMINATIONS Sinead O'Brien- Girlkind (CUB) Jane Remover- Royal Blue Walls (CUB) Sudan Archives- NPBQ (Topless) (CUB) Bubble Tea & Cigarattes- Go Downstairs to the Blue Moon, Buy Some Fried Chicken (MadhattanJack) Jenny Hval- Year of Love (Repo) Aldous Harding- Fever (Repo) Rozi Plain- Agreeing for Two (Repo) Umwelt- Generation One (LedZep) Blksmith- Satellite from Days of Old (Led Zep) Four Tet- Mango Feedback (Led Zep) Hikaru Utada - Somewhere Near Marseilles (Hayden) Sobs - Friday Night (Hayden) 9m88 - Love Is So Cruel (Hayden) black midi: eat men eat (Craola) leila martial, francesco diodati, stefano tamborrino: young at heart (Craola) the smile: skirting on the surface (Craola) Kham Meslien - A travers les orages (Kokkinos) Alabaster DePlume - Now (Pink Triangle, Blue Valley) (Kokkinos) Billy Woods - Asylum (Kokkinos) Death Cab for Cutie- Pepper (bojolpif71) Placebo- Beautiful James (bojolpif71) Cat Power- White Mustang (bojolpif71) Black Country New Road- Snow Globes (Mercury) Big Thief- Simulation Swarm (Mercury) Knoll- Felled Plume (Mercury) Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time (Blueboy) Angel Olsen - Big Time (blueboy) First Aid Kit- A Feeling That Never Came (blueboy) Ribbon Stage - Playing Possum (littleM1971) Little Simz- Gorilla (littleM1971) Dry Cleaning - Kwenchy Kups (littleM1971) Wild Up- Stay on It (Eyekanfly) Mydreamfever- Moment is Now (Eyekanfly) Brimheim- Can't Help Myself into a Different Shape (Eyekanfly) Pusha T- Brambleton (Tha1chiefrocka) Soul Glo- Jump or Get Jumped (Tha1chiefrocka) Jockstrap- Concrete Over Water (Tha1chiefrocka) Black Country, New Road - Chaos Space Marine (Patman360) Ka - If Not True (Patman360) Etrain de L'Air - Toubouk Ine Chihoussay (Patman360) Zach Bryan- Something in the Orange (Travelful) Black Thought & Danger Mouse- Aquamarine (Travelful) Nas- Micheael & Quincy (Travelful) Zach Bryan- Burn Burn Burn (Lowkey) Noah Kahan- Stick Season (Lowkey) Gang of Youths- Goal of the Century (Lowkey) Easy On Your Own? - Alvvays (baystateoftheart) Lights On - Hatchie (baystateoftheart) Quicksand - Hatchie (baystateoftheart) Jerry Paper - Second Place (musicoed) Valya Narezka - Чайка (musicoed) Мрачные Щи - Диктатура Меня (musicoed) "Best Left" The Beths (Gowi) "The Red River" Seventh Wonder (Gowi) "Nashville" CMAT (Gowi) Braxe & Falcon - Step by Step (ft. Merc, unless I'm really out of the loop, I think all of those songs qualify 🤔

Yep, they all qualify, though I get Merc's tounge-in-cheek sentiment

Sorry , it seems that my sentence "I've tried to put "new" songs .." created some confusion , my poor english... 😁

The three songs i've listed are all from 2022 , some of my favorite (i've of course a lot , included some already listed in this tournament ) , i've just tried to choose songs included in albums that aren't in the top 50 of 2022 BEA albums. 😄

Ok I'd like to switch that Ecko Bazz song for a Blksmiith track, if that's ok. Mmaso is cool, but every cut from Digital Twin album absolutely rips, with Satellite... being the most BEA friendly imo.

Nominations:
Umwelt - Generation One
Ecko Bazz - Mmaso
Blksmiith - Satellite from days of old, lead me to your access code
Four Tet - Mango Feedback

I came pretty close to throwing this on the board as well. Glad to know it’s nominated.
