Well, I guess Georgia Ellery wins no matter what the outcome of this one is. ๐Ÿ˜

I had no idea about that overlap.
After a solid 1-2 years of having both bands in frequent rotation, I just... did not know.

I think Black Country, New Road are poised to go down in history. I know they started at a bizarre time (COVID) and their lead singer left at a bizarre time (COVID, year 2) so they'll forever be entrapped in this weird time capsule, but they really have made quite a collective. Reminds me of the energy around Funeral-era Arcade Fire.

Not sure what's next for them.

PasteMagazine.com says they're going to soldier on as a mere six-piece, so they're not going away completely. But we still don't know if they're just going to have bass-player Tyler Hyde take over as the lead vocalist (she'd be my choice), or if they're going to bring in Sammy Hagar or Ronnie James Dio to be the front-man instead.

That'd be something. Apart from bringing Dio back from the dead, ofc.

It's a weird and fun match considering the connection between the two. I'm in the Jockstrap camp, I Love You Jennifer B is one of the best albums I've heard this decade. For the First Time and Ants... aren't too shabby either, but not as much of personal favourites. Concrete over Water in particular is possibly the best track on the album and one of the best tracks of 2022. I don't think BCNR have a track that could compete with it (perhaps Snow Globes or Opus?), and Chaos Space Marine, while being a fantastic track, is not a particular standout in 2022 for me. Tough matchup, two excellent tracks, only 1 clear winner.

I'm seeing them live this summer, they better figure things out ๐Ÿคฃ (Apparently they're playing only new unreleased songs with the bassist Tyler Hyde and the saxophonist Lewis Evans sharing the majority of vocal duties)

Not a fan of BCNR. Can't name a band I'm more unenthused by.

No, having these two go up against each other wasn't some evil plan. Anyways " Concrete Over Water" is a lovely, shape shifting bit of mega Art pop that does have a bit of that same Dirty Projectors-style issue in that I wish at times they let the song play itself out a bit more rather than adding every trick it can find. Chaos Space Marine, like most of the early tracks on Ants kind of went over my head, well-crafted high-brow quirk that I just don't find that interesting anymore. Vote for the Former.

Super cool matchup, I'll go with BCNR. In my case their charm hasn't worn off yet - quite the contrary, I think I like them more now than when they broke out. One could argue if that's their best song, but it's hard to think of many songs that do so much in just three and a half minutes, it's a great sample of what they are doing.
