This is dad rock, but last time I checked, I wasn't a dad - and I love this record and every other Steely Dan record I've heard. I also saw someone compare John Mayer and Steely Dan, which is odd to me. I like John Mayer a lot, but the Dan is much more interesting. Both artists are beloved by musicians, though. Understanding the theoretical sophistication here is certainly part of the fascination.
