New yeule is lit. Probably her best album, and I love Glitch Princess a lot. This one's just more consistent.
KEN Mode's VOID also sounds as abrasive and fun as you'd expect. Perhaps slightly less heavy than the predecessor, but it more than makes up for it with saxophones, keys and post-hardcore goodies.
For all the lovers of ghetto and electro, DJ MELL G has released a new EP, Issues. Missed that one in July, better late than never.
Also looking forward to hearing Tomb Mold's recent release, apparently it's great. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
It will take a few more listens, but my initial reaction is that this is his best. So much ground is covered here; I feel like it's a culmination of all of the various styles and techniques that Daniel Lopatin has been perfecting over the past 15 years or so. The second half of this album in particular is as close to flawless I've heard on an album in, well, a long time.

Totally disagree, I'm sorry to say. The album has its moments (Memories of Music - as irritatingly, self-consciously metahauntological as this track title may sound - and the tracks surrounding it, for instance) but the modern classical developments (chiefly the string arrangements) are boring and represent, it should seem, a trend shared by other electronic artists, say, a will to "play the great composer" which I find underwhelming, and, to be honest, a bit sad.

I gotta hear Hayden's thought on the new Sufjan (and any other posters, Hayden is just the GOAT).
Thanks... ? 🤣 (Being said, I don't have anything written regarding the new Sufjan, but it's a beautiful record, and certainly one of the best of the year). As much as everyone is saying it's nice he's back to his Carrie & Lowell sound, I'm baffled by the amount of people who've seemingly forgotten A Beginner's Mind (????)— it's still my favourite album of 2021 (or, at least top 2). Still not a fan of the artwork though (on either of those records).
Anywho‚ haven't posted in this thread for a hot minute. Sept & October have been packed, and my chart is out of vacancy. The new Matana Roberts Norman posted is up to her usual standard— which, is very high— and one of the year's best records. I wasn't aware of its release until you posted it Norman, so (thanks). She's created another extraordinary experience. I'm not sure how long Coin Coin will run (by all means, let them), but she's assembled a legendary discography.

Rhizomes by Aho Ssan
Aho Ssan is the only person giving Arca a run for their money. Insane production. There are at least a few moments on every song where I'm truly not sure how he managed to create some element of the composition. It's a very dense album, regardless the bright flourishes here and there, and for the most part you just let it swallow and pummel you. Really interesting guest list too. Nicolas Jaar, Nyokabi Kariuki, Clipping, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, Valentina Magaletti. There's definitely a vibe that collective has, and I'm very interested in seeing how Ssan molds to it. His sound is heaving with something human.

Lines by Akusmi
Lovely new minimalistic-bloopy neo-classical album from Akusmi. Not sure if it'll land my chart, but hoping everyone gives it a chance. Really feathery.
Sotto Voce by Claire Deak
Very dark modern baroque. Cinematic, but for a film with no light. Deak's primarily a scorer, and while her album could definitely be the soundtrack to something, it deserves its own pedestal. Sophisticated, windswept and stark.

Hot Fruit by Adeline Hotel
Almost skipped this one, but glad I didn't— indie-folk instrumentation used to compose a classical record. Smidge of jazz in there too. Plenty of 00s indie vibes, but with this fresh clean burst to it. Some gorgeous arrangements in the mix.
Somanti by Chouk Bwa & The Ångstromers
This kinda missed everyone's radar. Haitian/Belgian collaboration, follow-up to their very strong 2020 effort.
"Afro-Caribbean voodoo polyrhythms meet bass-weight dub electronics."
—I'm not going to try to describe it better than they did. Worth a spin.
Spunky! by Grrrl Gang
Spunky! by Grrrl Gang sounds exactly like you would want an album called Spunky! by a band called Grrrl Gang to sound.
(Indonesian powerpop)—
been watching them for a few years now. Glad they managed to wring up a really fun debut.

Inti Watana - El Retorno Del Sol by Luzmila Carpio
And this is just a ridiculously astonishing new record from Luzmila Carpio. Musically, I'm still not quite sure how Huayno works, but Carpio's new art pop spin on the Andean folk has created something I've never heard before. You might be familiar with Sumaj llajta (or her comp Yuyay Jap'ina Tapes), which merge Huayno and tonada potosina into something distinct, but she's somehow managed to add another layer to create something unique again. Reminds me of how when Elza Soares made her comeback. There's nothing like it.
New Armand Hammer is phenomenal. The past 5-6 years have really pushed Billy Woods to the top of the game. Consistently incredible lyricism from him— two of the best albums of the year for the second year in a row. I think a lot of MCs are upping their calibre just to try to walk alongside him. New Underscores is a fantastic breath of fresh air— really enjoyed that one. New Gaika's boring. New Spellling didn't do much for me either, but it was okay I suppose. Same with Eartheater. Genesis Owusu's latest sounded too much like Yves Tumor... was hoping he'd go in the opposite direction tbh. Chappell Roan released an interesting album— very foxy, sultry, slutty, confident, but not sloppy— I'll be keeping an eye on her. KMRU released another KMRU album. New Fanfare Pourpour is fun (Montreal vaudeville-esque jazz). Some other good classical/jazz crossover records out of France, Japan and China. Wasn't big on the new Laurel Halo... which, was really unfortunate, because I like her. New James Blake kinda went in one ear and out the other, not going to lie, but I remember thinking it was decent. Likewise Loraine James. And I really like the new Yeule, but it isn't my favourite by her (mind you, I've only heard it in full once). New Vagabon hit above my expectations too. Mitski's latest will be underappreciated because it isn't in-your-face, but she made a really good album. And if you're in the mood for some quality tuareg, Bombino's new record Sahel should fill your craving.
