Would like to listen to more stuff from the 50s and early 60s but I'm looking for some different type stuff if possible for that early. Something dark or ahead of it's time or whatever. Thanks.

This is the first song that was ever released from my late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal in 1962.

God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!

Holly

P.S. His most well known song named "Down In The Boondocks" went to radio three years later.

I'm only going to stick to the 50s. Here's some "different" stuff. Not sure if they're ahead of their time though.

These are dark more in their context:

Angola Prison Spirituals by Various Artists

Street And Gangland Rhythms: Beats And ...In Trouble

Get On Board: Negro Folksongs By The Fo...al McMahan

Murderer's Home by Various Artists

Negro Prison Camp Worksongs by Prisoners At The Ramsey And Retrieve State Farms, Texas

This one's at a little unique:

Harmonica & Vocal Solos by Sonny Terry

This one's at least 6-7 years head of its time:

Willie's Blues by Memphis Slim & Willie Dixon

And these are notably ahead of their time:

Prélude Au Sommeil by Jean-Jacques Perrey

The Fascinating World Of Electronic Mus...Kid Baltan

Indeterminacy: New Aspect Of Form In In...avid Tudor

Rangkaian Lagu2 Sunda by Seni Sunda Studio Bandung

Gold Coast Saturday Night by Saka Acquaye & His African Ensemble

Highlights Of Vortex by Various Artists

Delirium In Hi-Fi by André Popp

Kodok Ngorek by Karawitan Studio R.R.I. Surakarta

Electronic Ballet Music "Cain And Abel" by Henk Badings

Voices Of The Satellites by Various Artists

The Oud by Aram Arakelian Ensemble

The Story Of Moondog by Moondog

1er Panorama De Musique Concrète by Pierre Henry / Pierre Schaeffer / Philippe Arthuys

Karlheinz Stockhausen: Studie I / Studi...ik (Köln)

And there's probably a few more picks here: Top 100 Music Albums of the 1950s by Hayden. I've been wanting to overhaul the list for a while now though.

I Hear A New World: An Outer Space Music Fantasy by Joe Meek & The Blue Men

Ghost Ballads by Dean Gitter

Man Bites Harmonica by Toots Thielemans
This isn't a weird album, but the cover and the name always cracks me up. 😁
