Both you and LTSings are talking past each other. Maybe it would help if you would stop deliberately provoking her with insults ("pathetic", etc). Just because someone is odd or has poor social skills doesn't mean they're a troll. But you know what is a sign of a troll?

A: when they add "Hail Satan!" as their signature immediately after the person they're targeting makes "God loves you" a signature. That's pretty trollish. Just sayin'

Or. One has the right to make a statement against the continued flood of Christian content in a place where one goes to be away from things like politics and religion. One has just as much right to declare "Hail Satan" as one has to declare "God loves you".

Just sayin'.

That's a non sequitur. When did I say you didn't have the right? I couldn't care less if you wanna hail Satan in your signature. What I'm saying is that it's kinda hypocritical to call other people trolls if you're the one who's trolling them.

As for LTSings' "flood of Christian content", it's just music with Christian lyrics. As an atheist, it doesn't bother me at all. Why does it bother you? It's not like she's engaging in religious evangelism in those threads. If a Hindu posted a bunch of their favorite Hindu music, would that bother you as well? If a Muslim put "Allah be praised" in their signature, would you want to troll them by adopting a "Mohammed sucks" signature?
I doubt you would.

It's cute the way you stick up for her.

You don't know the dealings I have had with her. You do seem to be hung up on the whole "troll" thing, which is kinda pointless. I explained why my signature is what it is. I didn't have to...but I did anyway.

As for the rest, you are completely missing the point. Christian music doesn't bother me. Christian lyrics don't bother me. I have Christian albums, and I'm likely much more of a Christian than you are. What DOES bother me is someone who over-posts their religious music and then tells everyone that what they listen to is wrong, obscene, and offensive, and posts an article outlining that very thought. Without seeing anything wrong with it, without an ounce of apology, and without seeing that what they are doing is completely counterproductive...and THEN crying because no one pays attention to her. I could care less about her religious views...until she uses those views to insult the music tastes of everyone here. THAT'S when I start having problems with new thread after new thread of Christian music, and already existing threads being turned into the same.

Got it?

Oh, I got it just fine. And far from missing your point, I directly addressed it. She says that music with cuss words is obscene and offensive to her. Ok, so what? I disagree, but I've met plenty of people IRL who agree with her. We can choose to directly confront her view and argue with her about it. Or we can ignore it and move on. I choose the latter.

"insult the music tastes of everyone here"

That's a bit dramatic. "Everyone here" is not a monolith of people who all have the same music tastes. And I've personally had my music tastes & cultural views insulted countless times IRL and on other music forums. Sometimes the music we like will be harshly criticized ("insulted") by other people. I must have a much thicker skin than you, because I can get over it. Diversity of opinion is a good thing. And if we happen to have a religious conservative or two on BEA who happen to voice their disapproval of "obscene" music, then that's just providing an accurate reflection of the diversity of musical/cultural opinion that exists in the real world.

If you think she's posting too much to too many threads, than make a rule limiting how much or how frequently someone can post. Is she breaking the currently existing rules? If not, then why let it bother you?

BEA is intended to be agnostic in terms of religious and political content. However, too much content in one direction can give the false impression that it isn't.

90% of the site is buried behind the forums, but it's also a very important and visible part of the site. I'm sure there's a way for everyone to coexist without the forums looking like they're being taken over.

There's a dedicated thread LTS created in her Music Diaries where religious music can be posted, so perhaps this type of content could just be posted there (plus her 2025 diary) if other users don't want to see it amongst other threads (just floating an idea). Other religions would then need to be treated the same if this was to happen in the future.

Yes, I think this makes sense to limit posts related to religious music in someway. Otherwise, its possible to use the forums as a means of promoting a religion rather than discussing music, or whatever else. FWIW I have no real issue with LTS’ posting and, like others, wish her well on the site. But yeah, it is totally reasonable to set limits so posting religious themed content doesn’t overwhelm or misuse the forums.

Just catching up now on this thread now after holidays and agree with the sentiments here and those expressed by melisandre also, think a line should be drawn here.

I just want to say that I hope this doesn't reach some gray or overly sensitive and overly interpreted area where something like getting all excited about the spirituality and conviction of Bach's Mass in B Minor, or writing extensively and expressing interest in, excitement about, the emotional or religious intensity of Michelangelo's Sistine (or any number of religious paintings, visual art, or religious music, or the cinema of, say, Dreyer/Tarkovsky, etc) doesn't eventually start getting (re)interpreted as "spreading religious views". I assume it wouldn't, and hasn't so perhaps I'm jumping the gun at the thought of it, but sometimes when you start drawing too gray a line on things like this and not just simply maintaining open tolerance of differing views (in most cases a MUCH easier stance and rule than getting all caught up in it btw ... assuming it just isn't blatantly designed to troll, piss people off, be reversely intolerant, etc, of course...), this sort of overly censured righteousness can occur and lead down very ridiculous and counter-productive paths as can easily be seen just about any given day in the news, from any "side", and through countless periods of history, demonstrably negative regardless of one's political or religious affiliations one way or the other...

Agree, don't want or intend to suppress the deeper discussion of any topic, but only reduce the surface area of certain types of post. These types of post are mostly low effort and go nowhere close to the type of discussion that you are referring, and the legitimate critique of any form of art. It might be a stretch to call the current situation religious propaganda/spam, but it's coming close and updated forum guidelines will follow.

Now that the dust has [hopefully] settled, I just want to reiterate the only threads that should disappear are every single 'what are listening to/watching' threads. They are nothing but a waste of cyberspace. I say delete all of them, and abolish them from ever returning. Hopefully then, BEA can return to...um....a place to discuss music?

P.S. Thanks Repo for starting the Beach Boys listening project. Glad someone is trying!
