Apparently they released some sort of album and then it charted at number 1 in the Netherlands and Belgium.

This went through several iterations before being revived in the late 80's, this was brought back into the mainstream by a Chanel ad and then a claymation video.
Originally written by Walter Donaldson in 1930, Nina Simone first recorded a version of this in 1957 for her Little Girl Blue album, it recharted in 1987 when Chanel used it in one of their ads and then a claymation video followed, all the rage at the time.
I do really like this, but like before, I feel weird in placing it too high given it's a decades old track.
I like Nina Simone quite a lot and have listened to the vast majority of her work through the years, not my favourite track of hers but it's still very good and top 100 worthy, settling on 67 eventually.

The whole circus approach is a bit eery to me, can't get into it, it was inspired by a recording frontman Andy Bell heard backward apparently, which makes a lot of sense, but I can't get behind it.
Weird how it did so well as a pop single in a few places.

The fourth and possibly final entry from the Housemartins here, this was the final single released off their second and final album.
I've made it clear I thoroughly enjoy the band, one of the best things to come out of Hull (up their with the time Phil Brown scolded the Hull players on the pitch in a Premier League Link ).
Anyway, this is one of their slower hits but like I've said I find them consistently very good and this is no different, just shy of the top 50 as it's very competitive up there now.
This was a top 10 hit in Ireland and did well in Brazil also after it showed up in some telenovela.
The Housemartins would break up in 1988, giving birth to Fatboy Slim in the meantime, one a greatest hits album with one more new single on it did follow.

Another band making their Now debut, after being around for quite some time, Squeeze having been around the since the 70's and having broken up and reunited before this came out, this being off their 8th album.
Not a massive single success wise, but I do quite like it, Squeeze can really vary in terms of quality and there's huge variations in their line up also, so I've missed loads previously and this isn't one I've come across before.
Decent catchy hit.

It was going to take something special to claim the number one spot and finally we have it.
I love the Pogues, this isn't even my favourite Pogues song, but most of their songs are fantastic and their opening 3 albums are as close to perfect as a run as you can get.
This was featured on their third album, but had previously come out as a single prior to that, not sure how big this is in North America, but it still jumps up the charts every Christmas here.
It does feel weird putting essentially a Christmas song as number 1, but I have to do it really...
No longer with us I'm afraid, either of the singers, Mac Gowan drank himself to death over many years and passed in 2023, MacColl was tragically hit by a speedboat in Mexico 25 years ago whilst on holiday, both gone too soon.
That brings NOW 10 to a wrap and from tomorrow I've made the bold decision to up it to 2 tracks a day, starting with NOW 11.

So now into NOW 11, which came out in March 88, the 90's are only around the corner really.
A strong start to the album, with the 4th entry from the Pet Shop Boys, another really good one.
Obviously this is a cover, that's been around for a long long time, Elvis being the most famous, but others like Willie Nelson had success with it too.
This version was a huge success in itself, it was actually part of the soundtrack for the film, It Couldn't Happen Here, a film which actually started both members of the Pet Shop Boys themselves.
It's also beat out Fairytale of New York, yesterday's song, to the coveted Christmas number one slot for 1987.
A tough call, but my favourite Pet Shop Boys track so far, just.
