No prob! Thank you travelful!
I try to be comprehensive and to cover, give their due, to as many genres and great artists as possible as they almost always have some (or a lot) of greatness to offer (whether it be here with visual art, or with music, or film, or...). And I love the sense of discovery whether brand new or even that I also often get in "just revisiting"!
In case it was missed, the main list covering the "Greatest of all time" (according to me ) is on the very first page of this thread. Includes a section with images and links below the list, which also includes accompanying links to each "artist" page like those pages you're seeing with the recent Cole and Constable. While that "Greatest" list is pretty comprehensive so far, it is also still very much in progress with a long ways to go... and there is an even longer way to go with the artist pages if I ever feel like being "that" comprehensive ...and (a warning) I'm "insufferably meticulous" ... ... (and perhaps too strict for some) with the ratings/rankings
If you have any selections or "best ofs" that you'd like to share, I'm here for it, whether landscape or other genres. Constable and Cole are certainly among the great landscape artists, with Cole also venturing out towards history painting (with still a great focus on the landscapes) such as Course of Empire being his most famous. I will be adding more to their pages in due time. For instance, I added some more Constable selections yesterday and a very "rough" draft analysis for The White Horse, several of the same points of which are fundamentally applicable to his following works, with some technical variations, further developments, changes in tone or scene... but basically can be largely drawn from as a base from which to evaluate his later works. _________________ Best Classical

Right after Ricardo Bofill, you hit me with Umberto Boccioni, probably my favorite painter and sculptor.
Any thoughts on Dynamism of a Cyclist, Dynamism of a Football/Soccer Player, Development of a Bottle in Space, or Unique Forms of Continuity in Space?
I'm working on a ranked architecture list! It will probably come in the form of 1 building/work per architect and only feature buildings from the past ~150 years just because in my big spreadsheet of architects I like, I've only included architects born 1800 or later. Honestly not really sure why I restricted myself like that, maybe just because the farther back you go, the harder it is to find record of a lead architect. As for 1 building per architect, that's to avoid having >20% of my list be Frank Lloyd Wright He's not necessarily my favorite architect, but his portfolio is among the most diverse of any architect I'm aware of, especially since he helped develop more than one style of architecture.
Do you mind if I post in this thread? If I end up developing it further, I might start my own thread. Here's a preview of a few buildings which will probably be near the top:
- Cincinnati Union Terminal by Roland A. Wank of Fellheimer & Wagner in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, built 1928-1933
- Montreal Biosphere by R. Buckminster Fuller with Shoji Sadao; interior structure by Cambridge Seven Associates (Ivan & Peter Chermayeff et al.) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, built 1967
- New India Assurance Building by Chimanlal Motilal Master, Sathe and Bhuta in Mumbai, India, built 1936
- Torre Velasca by Ernesto Nathan Rogers of BBPR in Milan, Italy, built 1956-1958 _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

EKF!
I'll respond to your post a bit more specfically soon, but...
Yes! Please post! It's open to all (within reason... ). Even though my own list and accompanying artist pages are the intial focus and no doubt the most consistent focus of why I posted this (to track, share, discuss these, assist others with them if they want...), I nevertheless very much would like to hear from others too with their own selections, lists, regardless of whether theirs closely agree with mine or not. _________________ Best Classical

The most amazing coincidence just happened to me! II was thinking if II could find the original painting of this album cover:
Euphoria - Fumihiko Kitsutaka
And only about less than a minute later, II've found it! Although the bottom part of the album cover depicts another painting which was blended with the first one. II wonder if anyone knows what is the second painting (Possibly by John Constable too?).
It's one of my favorite album covers II've seen so far, and II like how the colors are more saturated and warmer and the bottom part belonging to the second unknown (for now) painting compliments the scenery better than the original.
The music itself is some nice Japanese power metal, athough the vocals aren't really impressive, since the singer doesn't hit the right notes perfectly, but the instrumental "Justice of Black" is a nice compromise for me which has good melodies, and most likely "Solitude" is an advanced homage to it, and it is already confirmed that Fumihiko Kitsutaka is the hugest inspiration for one of my favorite musicians of all time: Sword of Justice (the heavy/power metal one-man-project of Toshinori Hiramatsu).
Anyway, II've observed your thread since years ago, although not enough times, yet II'm still so grateful, since you have some really overwhelming recommendations for visual art II haven't found anywhere else on the internet! (Unless if anyone is familiar with a website which rates paintings etc.)
II hope you all have a good day

Thank you II, never seen that album cover or heard the band. Don't think I'll be replacing it any time soon with Constable's painting though
Glad to hear you've been following this and find you've got something out of this thread. You're always welcome of course and I would be interested in any further suggestions, selections, favorites if you've come up with some along the way.
As for painting sites.... There's really good sites that offer useful info or analysis (like Visual Arts Cork and others). But yeah, as for users presenting their own selections (or a collective vote of such things) they're pretty mediocre from what I'm come across any time I've looked around at it. When it comes to the subject of "best paintings" (even worse, if we mean also to find a place to discuss such things) ...not even sure I can recall finding any sites legitimately dedicated to such things on their own (which is beyond strange on a place as large and wide as the internet...) but where I found something approaching this, it's usually just rote rankings of the best ever by just about exactly how famous they are. Not the worst way to go with paintings as there is decent correlation between the two, but you also inevitably see silly things like ranking the "Creation of Adam" above or below also "Sistine Chapel Ceiling" or not even including the ceiling but only the Creation of Adam... huh? ... as in, there is an obvious lack of homework taking place ... they aren't even aware the Creation of Adam is just a very famous part of the Sistine Ceiling, which is far more impressive collectively as a whole (that also accumulates part-to-part) than any single part anyway (even if the Creation of Adam is indeed impressive and justifiably famous).
Might as well start ranking "Mona Lisa's mouth" #1 but not the painting (or above the painting which we can also rank!)... Hey, actually... maybe I can get into this!!! _________________ Best Classical

I like all those Boccioni's though I'm not sure how I'd rate/rank them at this time. I do need to make my way back through Boccioni's main works and seminal works of Futurism again (which I plan to and might do pretty soon). Off hand I might rank the famous Unique Forms sculpture the highest among those...
Excited about your Architecture list, pre-1800 be damned! (as most of my highest selections are before that, it should make a great companion of selections to those)
Thank you for those selections and links, great stuff, really like those! I'd recently looked over the Montreal Biosphere (without deciding on a rating/ranking yet) but hadn't seen the others in probably years, so this also makes a good reminder for me.
And totally understood regarding FLW -- so many great works. For my own rankings he might (eventually) have more 7s (or roughly) than anyone else even if I'm not sure how many 7.3+ works I'd give him yet (so far two, with potential for more). I have a long ways to go with architecture any ways so plenty of work and time to put in on it yet towards more (so-called...) "finite" conclusions... _________________ Best Classical
