This is the statement issued by Bandcamp regarding AI music (1/13/26):

"Bandcampโ€™s mission is to help spread the healing power of music by building a community where artists thrive through the direct support of their fans. We believe that the human connection found through music is a vital part of our society and culture, and that music is much more than a product to be consumed. Itโ€™s the result of a human cultural dialog stretching back before the written word.

Similarly, musicians are more than mere producers of sound. They are vital members of our communities, our culture, and our social fabric. Bandcamp was built to directly connect artists and their fans, and to make it easy for fans to support artists equitably so that they can keep making music.

Today we are fortifying our mission by articulating our policy on generative AI, so that musicians can keep making music, and so that fans have confidence that the music they find on Bandcamp was created by humans.

If you encounter music or audio that appears to be made entirely or with heavy reliance on generative AI, please use our reporting tools to flag the content for review by our team. We reserve the right to remove any music on suspicion of being AI-generated.

With this policy, weโ€™re putting human creativity first, and we will be sure to communicate any updates to the policy as the rapidly changing generative AI space develops.

Thank you."

Very good to see this. Bandcamp has recently been a hotspot for AI tracks and albums. Good to see that they are taking a stand!

Anakin / Padme meme where Anakin says "You should report AI music using our report tool" and then Padme says "so the report tool has a field for reporting AI music, right" and then Anakin says nothing and then Padme says "Right??"

This is a joke

Can you please explain this post? It makes no sense.

Bandcamp makes it clear as to how to report an artist.

From the artist page, click Report This Account. Choose Something Else. I am a: Fan. Select your issue: Other. Enter email address, subject, and message.
Or email terms@bandcamp.com.

Pretty simple and straighforward.

They are being bombarded with requests right now, because the announcement is just being found by people.

"Hello from Bandcamp Support! Weโ€™re experiencing a high volume of emails at this time and our response times are slower than usual. We appreciate your patience."

Got it?

I feel like it would be simpler and more straightforward if this did not get filed under "other". I really do not expect this to get anything.

At least it's there. At least Bandcamp is taking a stand. It's better than nothing.

I would say that Bandcamp claiming "the right to remove any music on suspicion of being AI-generated" is actually worse than nothing because not all suspicions are created equally.

It is against the rules for Bandcamp to think you used AI. They have no mechanisms for actually detecting when music uses AI. This is going to suck.

There are absolutely ways to determine if music is AI generated or not. Those tools are actually easy to find. I use them myself. Do some research and find them instead of assuming that they do not exist. They do.

I'm aware that those things exist, but BC are not open at all about what (if any) they'd be using. This feels like an awful lot of good faith to be giving to a union busting company!! They could stay true to everything they've written here by never testing any reported music and acting purely on vibes. This should be concerning!
