You know what I mean.
You get an album, you stick it on your CD player (or record player or whatever) and the first thing that comes out just blows you away.
Like "Nevermind" by Nirvana (opening track "Smells like teen spirit) or Music for the masses by Depeche Mode (opening track Never let me down again) or Beggars Banquet by the Stones (opening track Sympathy for the devil).
It's not a question about great albums in this case. I'm just talking about the "WHOA" effect when you hear those first notes.

Three words: Born. To. Run.

Thunder Road is the king of all opening tracks.

Airbag on OK Computer blew me away the first time. Still does to this day. Definitely the best opening track I've ever heard.

Other great ones:
Cherub Rock- Siamese Dream
Only One- Mean Everything To Nothing (Manchester Orchestra)
Everything In It's Right Place- Kid A
Across The Night- Diorama (Silverchair)
Brain Of J- Yield (Pearl Jam)
Apocalypse Please- Absolution

Yeah, Airbag is great.

Some others from the top of my head:
Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2 - War)
Bridges & Balloons (Joanna Newsom - Milk Eyed Mender; in fact, the first three songs here form what is probably my favourite opening to an album ever)
Speak to Me/Breathe (Pink Floyd - DSotM)
Only Shallow (MBV - Loveless)
Don't Panic (Coldplay - Parachutes)
Soft as Snow (MBV - Isn't Anything; again, fantastic opening to the album together with Lose My Breath)
Hidden Place (Björk - Vespertine; the same as above... works perfectly with Cocoon as the next track)
The Rainbow (Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden)
Since I Left You (Avalanches - Since I Left You)

etc.

The opener is the most important song on an album. If the opener and the closer is great, you can put almost everything in between, and the album will still be good. A good closer = you want to hear the album. A good closer = You think the album was good.

Great openers:
Death On Two Legs - Queen
Oasis - Rock'n Roll Star
Kings Of Leon - Knocked Up
Pixies - Debaser

Oops! The first song is not called Queen by a band called Death On Two Legs, but of course a song called Death On Two Legs by Queen.

(Definitely second Debaser, by the way.)

Also, I think you meant "a good opener = you want to hear the album", right?
