While we keep the overall chart as it is I propose we have a monthly chart so we can see what's changing on the chart. That means we will have the overall as it was 1st June 2010, 1st July 2010, 1 August 2010 etc with arrows showing whats gone up and down.

I know we can already do this by editing the overall chart but I think it would be a neat idea if we did something like this monthly. We could also keep the function to look at the overall at different times in the past.

this is useless since we can already do that ! but having changes of the chart for a longer period is interesting ( 3 years ago...etc), we can compare the current chart to the one from 06/2009 !

You already can see the overall chart on any day you wish:

View chart at point in time
Show this chart as it was on the following date (mm/dd/yyyy) but data is available for only a short history.

One variation of this would be to show an aggregated chart consisting of only charts that have been updated in a given time period e.g. a chart for June 2010 would only include charts that have been modified in June 2010 (and not charts modified outside of these dates). We were toying with doing something like this and perhaps having a chart of the week/month, hot 100 etc.

Hmm...I see a bit of a problem here. I just looked at my chart today and noted that I still want it exactly like this. That means it is actually really updated today, but noone can tell. I would think that is fairly common.

Yes, that could be an issue. We should put this idea on hold until we can refine it some more.

Would it be possible to have the monthly chart? It's much less to do than having customize the overall chart. Perhaps we could have the function in the statistics part? Smile

If you just want to see the chart as it was on the last day of each month, it's pretty easy to do that:

May 2010: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F31%2F2010

April 2010: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F30%2F2010

March 2010: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F31%2F2010

February 2010: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F28%2F2010

January 2010: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F31%2F2010

December 2009: http://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.p...F31%2F2009

Yes, we could create 'monthly overall chart' links for these if you think it's worth us doing this (it seems a fairly simple modification).
