What albums do you love but are embarrassed to let your snobbish friends know?
Here are mine:
Pink Floyd: The Division Bell
I enjoyed The Division Bell very much. The lyrics are nowhere near Roger Waters', but I love David Gilmour's guitar playing. And the lyrics are not bad.
Coldplay: X&Y
It may be because I was a child and this was the first CD I owned, but there's something magical about X&Y.
U2: No Line on the Horizon
I seriously don't understand what people don't like about this album. Bono's singing is great, and it's their most experimental album since the 90s. I really like it.
Radiohead: Pablo Honey
Sure it's not great, but it's most certainly not bad. And there are some great songs, namely You and Blow Out.
Well, it depends; some of the bands I love- such as Muse, Kasabian or The Cribs- may appear to get critical panning by American critics, but English critics are much more generous to them, so I'm not really sure. I guess outside of those I love Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs and the Pigeon Detectives who you could say aren't really well loved by critics.
If you're reading critics' reviews it's almost inevitable they will influence if you like or dislike an album. While you are not going to find someone here who copies any critic or publishers views on music albums completely, it takes a great deal of effort to remove your bias down to a minimal level.
Sometimes yes, and sometimes not, hardly yes... Well most people I know hates American Idiot, But I still liking it, and most people hated Reflektor last year, and that's may be why I didn't like it so much, sometimes the problem is our subconcious that say for us you can't like because X or Y, but Our mind doesn't tell us on the right way this code and almost everything "sounds" bad, That's why I like to listen to the album before seeing people's review or critics for it. Dude, yes. Thank you. I enjoy The Division Bell too, "Marooned" is definitely one of my favorite Floyd pieces.
Along the same lines, I actually really liked The Final Cut as well, despite a lot of people hating that. As of now, it's #30 on my top-100 of the 80s chart. _________________ Progressive Rock
The most recent BVB album, Hanson albums, Everclear albums after So much for the afterglow, any Hot Hot Heat album, Juanes, Aqua, Mana, Barenaked Ladies' discography, Crash Test Dummies, Goo Goo Dolls, Rednex, etc.

This, totally. I think it's really hard to remove any bias in general, whether they are positive or negative, and the critics' (whoever they are) opinion is no exception. I'm not saying it'll radically change your vision of a record, but someone can definitely get more indulgent or severe with something after reading an article or an opinion.
About the thread question, I'm not sure. Does Supertramp count? They are kinda uncool, but at the same time they're still pretty acclaimed. They are amazing anyway. I'm sure there are others, but this was the first band that came to mind.
