Very good record. Most I think rate this as their best even though I'd say low life was.

New Order's proper albums never did much for me. If "Age of Consent" and maybe a handful of other songs that don't immediately leap to mind had been on Substance, I never would have even felt the need to keep an LP of theirs. That said, this is definitely one of the better of a mediocre collection of LPs, in my opinion.

Although I'm not the greatest fan of New Order on LP format, and do believe the best NO record to have is Substance, this is very good. Mixes up their Ibiza obsession (astounding "Fine Time") and their poppier output (the "Just Like Heaven" rip-off, "All the Way", is remarkable too). Best non-compilation NO album from where I stand.

Speaking as someone who loves NO albums and thinks they're pretty much the bee's knees and all, I'd say this one is one of the best. I'd take Power, Corruption, and Lies over it for sure and probably Low Life as well, but this is probably the zenith of New Order as dance music, and it fucking knocks that out. As to where Substance fits into that whole equation, I'm not sure, but 80s New Order pretty much did no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. I also prefer Brotherhood over Technique though.
Since everyone loves to rank everything here we go
Endless Pleasure
Power, Corruption & Lies
Low-Life
Brotherhood
mixed feelings
Movement
Technique
Waiting for the Sirens' Call
Get Ready
Complete waste of time
Republic

My fave was always Low-Life. Then PCL. Bought the LP when it came out but didn't get to see NO live until last year - excellent show! Kind of lost track in the late 80s early 90s...

A LP that's got "Regret" can't be a total waste of time.
