In your opinion, who has stayed the most consistent in hip hop throughout the years? Who has the best discography in hip hop? This goes for solo MCs, rap duos, and groups.

Solo MC:

Nas

Since his first verse on Main Source's 'Live at the BBQ' he has stayed strong with his lyrics and flow. I saw him live last year and he still sounds as fresh as ever. He has countless classics under his belt and it's safe to say he has been the most consistent in the game as a solo MC.

Duo:

Atmosphere (Slug & Ant)

The amount of music these guys have released in the past 20 years is hours more than most artists who have been in the game since the mid 90s. The countless EPs and all their full-length LPs have little to no fillers, which is very rare and shows the dedication these guys have to the game. Their newest album 'Southsiders' is amazing, which just goes to show that they aren't leaving anytime soon.

Group:

The Roots

There is no such thing as a bad Roots album.. I'd even go as far to say there is no such thing as a mediocre Roots album. All of their releases are all years ahead of their time, and they are one of the few true hip hop bands in the game. Listening to their albums in order will show you their growth as a band, and you will see their own unique genre begin to mold and shape itself. Their newest release (..And Then You Shoot Your Cousin) is one of the most original sounding hip hop albums I've ever listened to.

Kendrick Lamar has been consistently improving throughout the last decade, all three of his full-length albums are crazy good. I know he hasn't been in the game as long as some other cats but he's already proved himself as the most consistent if you ask me.

Nas is great on some things, don't get me wrong, but most consistent? I haven't checked everything he's released, but of what I have, Illmatic was incredible, It Was Written and Stillmatic were good, Life Is Good was OK, Street's Disciple was unimpressive (I don't think I actually finished it though, to be honest), and Untitled was actively bad. Haven't checked his mixtapes at all but heard not good things about any of those post "Prophecy Vol 1".

Anyways, for me I guess DOOM takes it for most consistent solo, though that's not necessarily fair because I think he shines the most when someone else helps hold him down a bit, guy's so out there it gets a little ridiculous at times when it's just him for a while (see: FOOD), but there's not an album he's put out I've disliked.

Duos is weird because a lot of my favorites were one off things (Black Star, Madvillain, Jeremiah Jae and Oliver The Second), I guess I'd go OutKast only because I haven't heard enough Eric B and Rakim to judge their consistency.

For groups, it's a weird thing to be consistent. I like Jurassic 5 a lot but only recently found them. NWA had a great album but not much else. Public Enemy had 2 great albums and a whole lot of crap (anyone even remember Revolverlution outside of Sapone fanbois?). Wu Tang had 3 great albums that launched a lot of solo careers (or attempts at solo careers) but also released a lot post-prime. Tribe had 2 great albums, 2 good albums, and The Love Movement. I haven't heard any bad De La Soul or DMC, but I've heard more Roots, so I guess in the end I'd have to agree with you on The Roots.

I had a really hard time picking an MC. The only reason I didn't choose DOOM was because I see him more as a producer, although I agree that he is a beast on the mic as well. I tried to think of the best MC.. I think of DOOM as one of the best MCs on the mic (I'd put him in the same category as Lord Finesse, Large Pro or Oddisee).

Cool Aren't they great? Although, I wouldn't call them consistent. Quality Control is much better than the rest of their output.
