So I find myself with enough time at the moment to finally continue this series of proposed polls that I for one had a lot of fun doing and seeing the results.
Only managed to pump one out last time and you can view the results for the 1920s-50s here.
and now the 1960s
I have many ballots for 60s-10s (6 different polls) and am going to present those results but wanted to open it up to other people so please feel free to submit a ballot for each of the upcoming polls (I'll provide links soon). And I'll keep to wobbly deadlines this time ๐
and I'll be accepting ballots until probably 2 weeks time. It would be really awesome to get as many ballots as possible (we had a great amount for the 60s but it'd be cool to get even more) - it makes it more fun and it's more representative of the community. Don't get stressed out about making the 'perfect list' whatever you come up with is fine.

Is this just "best 50 single tracks" (including longer jazz pieces, etc.) or supposed to be focused on 50 songs in the most literal sense? Both ways work for me, but I would rather follow the grain to improve the quality of results.

oh satie. if i didn't know you better i'd take this as the most pretentious statement of the day.
hm? all i was doing was clarifying to make sure everyone's voting for the same poll. "song" means different things to different people (musicologically speaking, you would err exclusively towards vocal-driven musical pieces on a scale smaller than opera, for example), and my first instinct when i see "song" isn't to include long cuts from jazz LPs, but if other people are doing it, i would be more than happy to mold my list in the spirit of the poll so that we can as a group acknowledge the massive impact jazz had on the musical landscape of the '60s (among other genres, this is just an example). i just don't want to have a ballot that is either a bunch of throwaway votes for jazz cuts that people didn't vote for since they voted for literal songs or to have a ballot made up of only songs and fail to throw my lot in with cuts from masterpieces from Coltrane, Coleman, etc.

Splendid news!

i was just yanking your chain about your picks "improving the quality of the results"
I would say, just go with your personal picks. I'm sure there's been a handful of ballots that have included cuts by Coltrane and Coleman. You're never throwing away for pick if it's for something good. I think the highest picks are also worth more points than the lowest picks. so putting something at #1 will automatically put it in the runing for the overall list _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

oh yeah, i can see where ambiguity crept in. it wasn't an assumption of my picks improving the quality of the results by nature of being my own ENLIGHTENED INCREDIBLE SELECTIONS but rather an honest effort to help contribute to a list in the spirit in which I'm intended to, playing by the rules as it were, hopefully having a positive impact on the quality of the results in that sense.
in any case, sounds good. i'll make up my ballot tonight.
