i go back to this one more than i would expect. "good life" is still the ultimate party jam, and "flashing lights" may be his best track. just a lot of fun, y'know?

Love this. One of my first hip hop albums. Yes, it's maddeningly inconsistent, but those highs are Kanye's career bests, usually.

Track picks
3. Stronger
4. I Wonder
9. Flashing Lights (Feat. Dwele)
12. Homecoming
13. Big Brother

The front half is fantastic, but it falls the fuck off and never gets back on its feet.

I wouldn't say it falls off in the second half, it adopts a different vibe. Like all of Kanye's albums, there's an emotional arc going on: coming to terms with reality after graduating (Good Morning) followed by irrational optimism and self-confidence (Tracks 2-7) tempered with a little bit of shallow self-reflection (I Wonder).
But the second half is so vital because it demonstrates the collapse of the lifestyle he paints in the first half. The way he treats girls finally catches up to him, the constant drinks and parties are unsustainable, and the last 5-6 songs are describing Kanye's journey to fix his life post-graduation. Yes, he does make mistakes along the way. And that's what makes the album so good.

His weakest album, but when we're dealing with Kanye even his weakest is good (Watch The Throne doesn't count). Going for pop instead of soul, it's generally a great deal of fun, aside from a few tracks (Good Morning just feels like a waste, and Lil Wayne wrecks Barry Bonds). 7/10 for me.

lol, people give Kanye way too much credit.

Anyway, this is miles better than anything he's done since, obviously.

I like Graduation and 808's more than College and Late.
