|
Two albums, of similar origin, but very different in sound.
These two bands came from the Seattle area in the early 90's. Nirvana had released an album but this was the first album with pro studio treatment. It was Peal Jam's debut, but some of its members had recorded before with Mother Love Bone. The two albums were released within a month of each other. You can look up which one was released first if you want to.

The rules of the Grudge Match are: You are being asked which album you listen to the most. Not which one you think is best, or has the most artistic merit, or was the biggest breakthrough. You are voting with your ears on this one.

Nevermind, by a lot. I did listen to Ten a good bit as a teenager, but Nevermind was one of the focal points of my life in the '90s and has gotten way more listens.

I don't listen to either much anymore, but if I were to put one on it would definitely be Nevermind.

I have listened to Ten much more over the years, but I don't know if I've listened to anything more than I listened to Nevermind from '91 to '93.

Ten has the disadvantage of Eddie Vedder's voice but the advantage of better songwriting and lyricism. Nevermind has the advantage of sounding less dated and being more fun but the disadvantage of plagiarism (the Killing Joke riff) and shitty nonsensical lyrics that Cobain dickriders think are great poetry or whatever. Both of these albums are really bland, but Ten is a bit less so.

Re: Eddie Vedder's voice. It's what makes the album worth listening to. He has the most interesting Baritone voice of the 90's. In fact, I have a list for that.
Best Baritone voices, by decade
1950's Elvis and Sinatra.
1960's Jim Morrison
1970's Gordon Lightfoot
1980's That guy in Tears for Fears. That other guy in Duran Duran. The guy in Icehouse. Never mind Springsteen and Mellencamp. The 80's were actually a great decade for Baritones, and from that tradition came:
1990's Eddy Vedder (you saw that coming).
2000's Chad Kroeger (sorry, but he was the best)
2010's Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys)
