I've got a huge soft spot for Don Cherry (Ed Blackwell too), and I credit Ornette for letting him shine and go on to do bigger, better things. Of course Ornette is a genius too, and if he didn't create it, he at least gave a name to one of my favorite types of music, free jazz. The world lost a great musician, and Texas has lost perhaps it's greatest.

I have only love and respect for the works of Ornette. Probably my favourite jazzman with Ayler, Mingus, Coltrane and Archie. He was relevant to the very end. R.I.P.
