I was thinking about how often we actually listen to our favourite albums. For me some are weekly, others I go in between. So, I was thinking about listening to my top 50 albums, one a day, for 50 days. I would imagine that my perception of them, and hence my list, will be altered dramatically after. I will post my daily thoughts on the album, etc. Anyone else interested in something like this? Sorry if this has been posted in the past, did not find on search.

Edit: Will start Wednesday, busy day tomorrow and RUSH concert in the evening.

Meh, I dunno. Personally, I have to say that I listen to my top fifty way too much! It's hard for me to go two months without listening to something like Little Earthquakes or Pinkerton.

Finished listening to Revolver... well it's going nowhere on my list. I haven't heard it in a while, but every time I do it strikes me with its absolute brilliance. A perfect record. Highlight for me is definitely the haunting I'm Only Sleeping. Probably my favourite Beatles song.

Ok here we go I have just started playing only shallow and I am typing to the rhythm of the drums involuntary, I think that speaks for its self in regards as to how immersive this album is.
Wow that song really sets the mood for the entire album.

Bilinda and Kevin have such soft voices, they really draw you in and you almost have to hunt for the lyrics... or look them up Cool

Ok in all honesty To Here Knows When, does go on for a bit to long. And then I goes to When You Sleep (My Favourite track) and all is forgiven. Listen to this song the guitars are singing!

Well at this point I am pretty much certain that Loveless will be at the top of my chart for a long time

I Only Said fades out in the same way as To Here Knows When. However it doesn't last quite as long which is great

Hmmm actually Sometimes may be may favourite song on this. It is easily the best lyrically

Close my eyes
Feel me high
I don't know
But you could not love me now
You'll know
And I feel down to the ground
Over there
And I want to like tomorrow
You can hide
Oh my love, but where to?

Yeah Sometimes is definitely my favourite song on this album

Blown On A Wish, for me this song defines Dream Pop Cool (yes I know many came before it etc)

What You Want for me is the lowest point on the album. I still really like it though and if you can enjoy the lowest point on the album then I would say that it is doing very well. (I think it is really the first two minutes of the song are what bring it down for me)

Ooh last track. Soon (Not soon enough Kevin, I want a new MBV album!) Soon is great it doesn't go out with a bang, it gently eases you off the biggest musical high because it knows if it dropped you the hangover would be too immense to recover from.

Well I can say I thoroughly Enjoyed that. I wonder If Dark Side Of The Moon will give it much competition.

Neutral Milk Hotel: In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

ITAOTS kicks off with perhaps its most accesible track, "The King Of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1." There is always something about this album that evokes an intense emotional response. So accessible, yet so different.

I LOVE YOU, JESUS CHRIST is the theme of "KOCF pts 2-3". Maybe the heaviest track on the album, if that is the word, it is again a joy to listen to. The title track is a beautiful piece of music. Simple but profound. The lyric "I can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all" says so concisely the wonder and confusion the universe brings upon us. "Two-Headed Boy" was my favourite song by far on my first listen of this album, and although a few may have surpassed it, it still retains that hook that "gets me" everytime.

After the pleasant interlude, "The Fool", the albums only, umm, single I suppose commences. "Holland 1945", perhaps the groups best known song, is more of the same. Beautiful, intimate, perfect. The short but intriguing "Communists Daughter" gives way to the albums epic, to use the word lightly. "Oh Comely", despite its 8 minute + length and simple chord structure never wears or bores, even after all these listens. "Ghost" and "Untitled Track" follow. There isn't much more to say about these tracks that hasn't already been said. The final song, my favourite, is "Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2". The vocal hooks in this song are superior to anything in NMH''s catalogue. Excellent.

That album will never get old. I wish I could give it 1A along with Revolver. Perfect.

Ok so Dark Side Of The Moon

Well it is very difficult to put into words what this album mean for me or anyone, and I would say most people have a special place for DSOTM in their hearts

So starting of with Speak To me /Breath. we have 50 seconds of nothing (A great way to start an album Cool ) ... I really don't know how to describe it, I have Goosebumps form the opening notes, I'm singing along and swaying to it. Really that is what DSOTM is for me, a magical experience

And after thatamazing intro we get On the Run Rolling Eyes and while totally necessary to the album's concept it is still easily the most boring song on the album (In My Opinion) and it is diminished further by the anticipation of Time

Time has the most haunting and if not the best intro to a song ever, everthing in this song is so precise and it's so familiar. Ahhh and the gituar work sooooooo good Very Happy

The Great Gig In The Sky. You really can't get vocals better than this, there is so much power and emotion in her voice .

Money. Laughing again I am typing to the rymthm so the song, I mean come on the bass like is so good. One of the few "fun" Pink Floyd songs and exellent saxophone solo Cool

Us And Them. Personal favourite on the album. This song really epitomises progressive rock for me. Hmmm DSOTM is really giving Loveless a run for it's money

Any Colour You Like. Wow Pink Floyd two "fun" songs on one album? I'm impressed Razz On a side note, The Flaming Lips version of this song is really neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8gToZey60k

Brain Damage. Great tribute to their former band member (So many of there songs are tributes to him, maybe they have somthing to feel guilty about Shocked )

Eclipse. Easily the most important song on the album, Clare's amazing vocals return and the lyrics sum up the entire albums concept in an equally epic fashion.

Great Album 100/10

Goddam I'm not sure If I can be bothered doing this for 48 more albums.

I see this thread went nowhere Laughing .. Anyway I dug this up because I'm up to something similar. I'm a bit unhappy with the way my chart looks right now because it doesn't really represents what I'm listening to now, but rather how much I liked those albums when I was listening to them the most (even if it's been a while since I actually did).. So I'll listen to my top 50 + some 20 more albums in next days/weeks and then amend my chart a bit to make some sort of a compromise - ie between how much I like and listen to an album now, and how much I liked an album the most in the past (hope that makes sense lol).. I doubt it will change much at the top of my chart, but there will be for sure more of the stuff I listen to now (like hip hop and Björk... definitely more Björk)...
I'm not gonna write reviews for every album I'll listen to, but I might write some posts later about the changes I'll make

Bjork's voice sounds like Kenny G's sax getting raped by big foot's dick
