Post subject: Choose your Best Heart-Breaking Slow Songs
I'm very into loud guitar music but however I have a weak spot for heartbreaking slows and here I really would like to avoid the Barry Manilow or Celine Dion mellow stuff (although maybe I'm biased ).
I tried not to choose the obvious choices like Yesterday (I really like as well) and I tried to limit the number of poll possibilities but I must admit I added my personal favorites. A good example is Elvis Costello of whom I added the obvious one (I want You) but I couldn't help myself adding my personal favorite Still from the underrated album North and of course there are many other candidates like Shipbuilding, Alison, Brilliant Mistake or Indoor Fireworks. In any case: feel free to give your personal favorites in your posts.
To make the link with albums (of course this remains a Best Ever Albums site) I added those at well.
Martha would be my choice from your list. Hurt is fine, although I much prefer the original NIN version.
Two tracks that could possibly match your idea and immediately come to my mind are:
I Know It's Over by The Smiths (The Queen Is Dead)
No Distance Left To Run by Blur (13) _________________ Always shouts out something obscene
I was expecting that a lot of people would prefer the NIN version of Hurt but to me the Cash version is better especially after watching the clip on Youtube where he is looking so fragile.
I've got a bit the same with Personal Jesus where I also prefer the JC version (hey never noticed they've got the same initials) above the original Depeche Mode version.
I guess it's a bit vague what exactly fits into this thread's "Heart-Breaking Slow Songs", but Im guessing slow-burning songs that are... heart-breaking, not just in the lovey-dovey way.
I think you've got the point: especially the Daniel Johnston one is indeed heart-breaking. You know I can't even see the first one by Perfume Genius because "it isn't allowed to play in my country".
Interesting choice of artists though. Sophia are a more osbcure pick, but they do 'sad oasis' very well - Directionless is probably the most 'heart-breaking' song I've heard from them.
