This thread was from a few months ago about which users have great charts and why. I was surprised to see so many users value personal feedback on what other users love about the selected albums on their charts. Up until that thread, I didn't think many users actually cared to read comments, but I was wrong to assume to that. So ever since that thread, I've been gradually adding personal feedback to albums on my chart that mostly begin with a quoted lyric from the album. Hopefully these new comments, plus being CotD, will make it worth looking at.
Happy listening everyone

I probably have it ranked higher than it should be. But it is their best album imo. It's more creative than the four that came before it, which rarely break from the garage-rock sound. Icky Thump also mixes things up, but it's nowhere near as consistent as Get Behind Me Satan.

I like this list. Sure there are some albums and artists I can't stand but overall, a good list.
points taken away for having a greatest hits album on your list. _________________ "What it is" - Joe Walsh

Depends what you think the point of an album is. I think it's a coherent collection of songs that an artist makes at a certain time in their artistic progression. It's hard for me to think of a greatest hits album as an album, rather than just a marketing sampler to try to get new fans for an artist.
Having said that, some artists never put together a good album, but they have a lot of good hits, so I understand why people might prefer to listen to singles rather than albums for those artists.
But nowadays we have "top songs" playlists instead of greatest hits albums for that.
Naturally, there are no hard and fast rules. Example: Top Petty's Greatest Hits features Mary Jane's Last Dance which was a fresh release (and therefore not a greatest hit until after it was put there).

By and large I agree with this, but I make one exception for the album in question on my chart...Photographs and Memories: His Greatest Hits by Jim Croce (ranked 72). Croce, in his brief career cut short by a plane crash, only recorded/released three albums, one in 1972 and two in 1973. That's a pretty small timeframe, and he didn't progress much as an artist in that timeframe. He didn't even have time to progress as an artist cause he died so soon into his career. I've listened to his three studio albums (You Don't Mess Around With Jim, Life and Times, and I Got A Name) and they all sound pretty much the same. There's nothing that artistically distinguishes one album from another, which makes Croce's greatest hits album sound more like studio album than a compilation. And it's amazing for pulling the best songs from his three albums and putting them in pretty cohesive order. Again it doesn't sound like a greatest hits album. I love it. Croce's three studio albums are good but not overall chart-worthy, so his greatest hits was the logical way to represent him on my chart.
But it shouldn't matter. If I saw a greatest hits album on a user's overall chart, I wouldn't criticize them for it, unless the chart had an abundance of them, or if a user had a studio album(s) and a greatest hits album(s) from the same artist.
