Just curious as to what is your main reason for buying music from a particular artist,be it cd or lp...do you buy for the lyrical content, maybe the musicianship,or maybe just how it sounds?.....I buy mainly for the sound quality.I never hardly ever listen to the lyrics, unless they are easy to hear or right there and obvious. Sound quality is for sure number one for me...what about you??.Thanks,Huck50

I've been listening to A LOT of music lately (for me 900+ albums since January seems like A LOT).
I've noticed that I pay attention to lyrics like only 20% (to my detriment for those artists that their best part is their lyrics (Dylan, rap, cohen, etc.), rhythm plays a huge part (focusing a decent amount of my focus at the bass/rhythm section), and then to be honest I'm a bitter sweet pop guy 80% of the time, so is a catchy, yet mentally intriguing, heart thumping song that identifies with my humanity?
As for purchasing... I only really buy music if I already love it. If I don't love it yet... I don't buy it. (unless it's like huh, I want to check it out and I found a used copy for $2 and I kinda can't find it anywhere else).

When it comes to buying music instead of just streaming, it usually comes down to me liking the band as people or really enjoying their live show. Because just about everything can just get streamed I don't really bother unless it's almost as a thanks to the band for being cool. Exceptions there are stuff that's hard to find digitally or stuff that's cheap and just cool (see: all the 78s I bought even though I probably shouldn't have) _________________

The music I like the most, I connect with on every level. It's got to intrigue me lyrically, and feel right, and sound right. If I find an artist I like, I tend to explore their whole catalog.
I tend to buy CD's, and then vinyl if the album has become significant in my life experience. I never got into buying downloads, but have been enjoying Apple Music as a means of music discovery this year.

Actually, for me, my main reason for buying music, beyond liking something, is an ethical decision: to support the artist, because I know they get hardly any income from me just streaming.

I go for the lyrics, the singing, and the instrumental delivery.
God bless you always!!!

Agreed.
If you like it enough to listen to it multiple times, go out and support them.
Also, liner notes are fun to read while giving the album a listen. And collecting can be a fun hobby.

I buy albums so when people come over to my house they go "wow, you like a lot of good music."
If they do not comment on music collection, lovingly displayed, I will go over to stand by it while while making subtle gestures to direct their attention. If they still don't tell me how fucking great I am for having a collection full venerated classics, while also containing a healthy number of tastefully chosen indie works, I will ask them directly if they like music while running my hand over the spines of my record collection.
If they then still refuse to acknowledge my music collection based superiority, I show them the door. Who needs assholes like that in your life?

^^^ Uh...if you buy what you think other people may think is good, what will there be for you to enjoy?
God bless you always!!!

P.S. Buy what you want to hear and if other people do not like it, that is their own problem. _________________ Me & my favorite singer James Otto
