I feel the trick with artists like this is that they just create... they don't give a shit if it appeals. Sometimes it is amazing and sometimes it is mediocre, and it doesn't really matter.

Well put. Bob is somewhat inconsistent, but when he's on, he's fabulous. He's pretty on here. A lot of genuine emotion on this one.

Yep. This is definitely one of his "ON" moments. Neil Young is another artist that comes to my mind with his "I'll play what I want and if you like it, great"-type attitude.

Definitely agree with this. I think Dylan and Neil are just good enough songwriters where there's no way a lot of their songs wouldn't appeal to a lot of people anyway. Dylan knew how to write for himself yet appeal to everyone else.

I hate to say it do to the recent Bowie worship, but I feel the same about Bowie. Spot on when he's on and then other times he's playing with finger paints... and that's just fine.

Dylan's finest album after Blonde On Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited (yes, even including Blood on the Tracks). This album deserves quite a bit more attention than it usually seems to get.

Now I don't feel so bad having Desire as the only Dylan in my top 100. I've never listened to Hwy 61 but this (Desire) is more refined than BoB imho.

I like the Desire record, but I think Blood On The Tracks could be his best record. It's my favorite Dylan record so I'm biased but regardless I think it's fantastic.
