I think this has been discussed, but I didn't see a thread dedicated to this.

I know forum people can get upset when there are reposts or things aren't in the right spot so moderators can feel free to delete this is this upsets you.

What are your thoughts on Hamilton? From a musical perspective? From an artistic perspective? From a theater perspective? From a cultural perspective?

it's fine I guess. Some songs have catchy hooks and the raps are gimmicky as hell but can sometimes be moderately clever/enjoyable in a campy ERBOH kind of way (albeit taking itself way too seriously)

I mean it definitely takes place in a theater

It's probably the most interesting new musical since (I dunno... Once? Rent?), and it must be an absolute challenge to perform every night. The work that went into it is monumental.

Musically, it's decent. The soundtrack has hits and misses, but overall it's a cool way to get kids into American history as well as hip-hop.

I think the major achievement (in my opinion of course) that Miranda has succeeded to do with his play is that he's helped entitled old white people to maybe somewhat look at hip-hop with a better attitude. He made it slightly more accessible to demographics that didn't particularly care for it before, or perceived it as a 'thuggish lower art form' or something.

That mixtape remix thing that they did last month was terrible though 🤣 Apart from the songs that The Roots covered, the rest was absolute lifeless butchery.

Yup.

It's ironic that one of the poll options is "I'm too elitist to answer this poll", because the meme of Hamilton as a cultural phenomenon has been aggressively pushed by elite taste-makers.

The music is decent for show tunes, but as a rap fan I find most of it corny as hell.
