So, what is your opinion of this particular book by James Joyce? Any thoughts? If you read it, how was your experience? Was it awful? Enjoyable? Weird? Whatever it was, you can share it all here!

Personally, I've never read more than a few parts of it, but I plan to read the whole thing soon.

I've been telling myself this for the last ten years.

I'll get to it when I finish Ulysses. If I'm already not going to understand it, I may as well try to get an understanding of Joyce as a whole first.
Plus, Ulysses is (so far) an awesome read.

Joyce was a interesting writer and Dubliners is a delight but i really cant be bothered with such a self regarding book as Finnegans Wake, its like trying to decipher a code and Joyce asks too much of his readers, would rather spent my time with a Shaw play a fellow Irishman whos very neglected nowdays.

I've never finished a Joyce novel (aside from his poetry collections)
I always start, get halfway through and then shelve it, never to read it again. I just never get all that into them. _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Try Ulysses again. It's a great read. The last part alone is a masterpiece in itself, if you can't get down to reading the whole book, try the last part, it's so incredibly beautiful.

Dubliners or Artist are also great places to start, beautiful and accessible works both of them.
Max: I love Shaw. Do you like Synge's plays too?

yes weedygonsalez Playboy of the Western World is very good and i've read all his collected plays,Shaw in some ways hasnt aged well as his plays dealt with contemporary issues but many of his ideas and themes are universal and timeless,my favour shaw play simply for the comedy it contains is Arms and the Man.

I haven't read too much Shaw, just the requisite amount for class, really, but John Bull's Other Island is one of my favorite plays just for its remarkable character work alone.
In fact, I think I'll go buy a big e-book anthology of all his plays right now.
