Has anyone noticed that the intro to Foo Fighters' "The Pretender" sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven"? Just thought that was interesting, and kind of ironic

Never thought of it until now, but really only those first 3-4 notes of the riff are similar. I'd say it's a bit of a stretch to call it a rip off.

Yeah it's just an arpeggiated chord, albeit what sounds like the same one. It's incredibly simple stuff, we'd be swimming in lawsuits if it were a crime.

I always thought Last Nite from The Strokes and American Girl from Tom Petty had a lot of similarities.

But totally unique songs too.
