- Post subject: Best Track Intros
|
Sorry if this has been done to death on this website, don't use the forums much. I was just wondering if anyone had any favorite track intros, because there are some awesome ones out there. Here are my personal favorites:
- Pretty much every Avenged Sevenfold intro-track
- Viva la Gloria? (Little Girl) and Homecoming by Green Day
- For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica
- Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance (go ahead, sue me)
- Money For Nothing by Dire Straits
- High Hopes by Pink Floyd
- Underclass Hero and The Jester by Sum 41 (again, sue me)
- Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne
- The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring
That's all i can think of at the moment. I'm sure I have tons more, may add on to them later. Does anyone have any?
P.S. I have seen a few forums similar to this, but they were all closed, for some reason. If an admin or something wants me to take this down, I will.

My brain is not working right now so will update later
These ones currently springing to mind...
10CC- One night in Paris
Aerosmith-Eat the Rich
Radiohead-Let Down
Ramones-Blitzkreig Bop
Sparks-Number one song in heaven
Aretha Franklin- Respect
Dusty Springfield- Son of a Preacher Man
Graceland-Paul Simon
Money for Nothing-Dire Straits (I have to steal this one- great choice )
Billie Jean- Michael Jackson
Heatwave- Martha Reeve and the Vandelas
Today- Smashing Pumpkins
The Clash -Train in Vain
The Smiths- This Charming Man
I'm trying to ignore songs that begin with a great lyric or killer riff that is repeated throughout the song as I think they could be part of different threads (best opening line/ best riff)

This is a good topic. I'm looking at the ones all you guys already listed , and I have to agree with an awful lot of them.
The one that comes first to my mind is Station to Station by David Bowie (even tho it's a direct lift from from the album Zeit by Tangerine Dream it's still awesome). And from a couple years earlier, Phaedra by Tangerine Dream. I got to think about it to come up with some more that people haven't already listed here.
There's also the strange phenomenon where tracks have fantastic intros, only to lead to a huge disappointment when the rest of the song starts. I'd like to make a list of some of those.

Lou Reed- Rock n Roll Animal --Sweet Jane.
It is is a live album by Lou Reed; it features five songs, four of which are songs by the Velvet Underground.
For the album, Lou Reed hires a couple of gun slingers---Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter.
And man oh man what a performance.
Sweet Jane. If you don't have it, check it out on YouTube. Head phones preferably. it will be a worth while experience.

Now I feel like a total dickhead for not mentioning Station to Station or Sweet Jane
Also shouldn't we have mentioned Gimme Shelter by now? That has to be better than Eat the Rich!!!

And here is my contribution
Flavor of the Month by The Posies just because of that great opening line
Whatever You Want and Down Down: for the long and gradually more dynamic opening riffs
Cannonball by The Breeders because of the start/stop nature of the riff
Like An Oilspill by The Aints: comes in without knocking
Ace Of Spades by Motörhead: a beast of a riff
A Forest by The Cure: a mighty riff
War Pigs by Black Sabbath: a slowburner
Under The Table by The Godz because of that train sound
I'll Never Forget You by Hüsker Dü: a classic hardcore guitar riff
Enter Sandman by Metallica: great built-up from accustic to electric
Master Of Puppets by Metallica: in your face start
Black Betty by Ram Jam and Whole Lotta Rosie: great bluesy guitar riffs
I Can't Live In a Living Room by Red Zebra: more simple ànd effective is hard
She's A Rainbow by the Rolling Stones: that untuned piano
Rebound by Sebadoh
The Passenger: an opening riff that makes you want to jump up and down and has longtime been my ringtone
Going Nowhere by Therapy? a buzzsaw riff
Lay It Down by Magnapop: a staccato riff
Marquee Moon by Television: very laidback but effective
Vision Thing by The Sisters of Mercy: how can you maintain an opening riff for 7'34" minutes without ever losing momentum
Underwhelmed by Sloan: again for those opening lines
I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Stooges: the dirtiest opening riff I Know
Oh La La La by TC Matic: the funkiest opening riff I Know
Radar Love by The Golden Earring: the grooviest riff I know
Out There by Dinosaur Jr: one of the fuzziest riffs I know
And Finally: the whole Dirty album by Sonic Youth: Daydream Nation is the best album but this one has the best opening riff
