There's no way it's not going to be a disaster anyway. You can't make a coherent movie out of most video games, and I don't know how you'd do it with Borderlands either. Are they going to do an original script, or are they going to do the plot of Borderlands 2? And, to make things worse, the last game in the series had the worst writing to date, and if the people who are supposed to make the game can't even get the tone right, then how should anyone else be able to do it?
I love the series, and I've played all the games BTW, so that's why I have such a strong feeling about this.
And yeah, Blanchett is a little old. Surprised that Eli Roth could get someone like her to sign on to the project.

I mean all you need is the same writing team that did Fury Road with a few comedy writers to get it decent. Borderlands isn't hard.
True. From what I've researhed, Roth has made some decent movies. And since video games-central movies have seen an increase in positive reviews over the last couple years, it's possible that the Borderlands film will be decent. It's just the casting choice isn't the best choice due to the age. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

I can see it being a Suicide Squad type of movie where the humor thinks it's edgy, they spend too much time trying to build up backstory, and they end up fighting some ancient evil that's not readily explained. The Eridian lore in the games is pretty deep as well as the corporations that are involved. Lots of side characters; I can see it becoming overstuffed and incoherent very easily, but if I'm proven wrong, then that's fine with me.
This might seem like an odd comparison, but I would kinda like to see it be like a Starship Troopers movie, where you just get thrown into a universe and they shoot a lot of aliens without much explanation. And some of the satirical edge of a movie like that is kind of the same humor as the Borderlands universe too.

I feel like the only way to do a Borderlands movie that isn't abject garbage is to do it within the Borderlands universe, using sort of the same creatures/generic characters/dark comedy feel, but not try to replicate the plot of any of the games. _________________ Progressive Rock

Never played the game, but if Roth wasn't already attached, their best shot at making a watchable movie would be getting Phil Lord to direct.
