this matchup kills me because being a teen and seeing the kid a bumpers on mtv and getting the album and seeing idioteque on snl were all so huge for me. so I understand why it will win.
please give a listen to the max tundra song though, I think the way it moves through different sounds while maintaining a coherent identity is one of the very best things, I think this song is among the absolute finest of the 2000s.
Never really got the fuss about Idioteque Cool beat but I don't really like Thom's vocals on this track. PLaY THe FUCKiNG BeNDS!!
OK-just kidding (A bit). The Max Tundra track started out a bit annoying for me and then ended up somewhere really good somehow. I'll give it a vote as I'd prefer to hear it again over Idioteque.
Yeah Tundra was a nice discovery and a gem of a tune, definitely, but... ouch. Did not get the luck of the draw here. Long history with "Idioteque" but will give a side-by-side listen to give Max (haHA) an even shot.
Radiohead so often seems to be on the cusp of greatness, but then those whiny vocals kill it. This is an especially good example of that phenomenon. On the other hand, Max Tundra seemed fresh and creative. Easy vote from me to Max.
I've never heard this version before... think I prefer the original a smidge. Regardless, I think most people here have heard Idioteque and know what it sounds like.
And... well... yeah, it gets my vote. _________________ Doubles & Conch
Good to see Cakes getting love. It's a great track. Really tough luck to draw a matchup with Radiohead in the first round.
Kid A came out a day before my 18th birthday. Got it the day it came out. I was about a month into my first year of college, living in New York City. I walked around the city, letting Kid A, and more specifically Ideoteque totally consume me. It was my world. I'm not sure I would have gotten through some of the tougher moment of that year or following years had it not been for this song. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Yeah here's the original, none too great quality transfer so may worth seeking out on streaming (or perhaps a better version exists not available in the US):
