While I've never been a huge fan of David Bowie, Blackstar is a hell of a record--I have it ranked rather low on my 2016 chart, but chalk it up to a decent year. Either way, he went out on one of the highest of notes. God bless.

Very good album but I don't think its quite a classic. 224 on the overall is a bit high for me.

A fitting and beautiful goodbye from (and to) one of the greatest songwriters of our time. AND it was inspired by Death Grips. RIP Bowie

One of my favourite Bowie albums and a touching, yet energetic, swansong.

What a way to go out.
Unlike The Next Day which was also a very good album that proved Bowie wasn't washed up, but ultimately a revisiting of Bowie's earlier musical styles, Blackstar is a different beast. Genre-bending, experimental meditation on mortality by a 69 year old guy who has been making music for 50 years. A feat seldom seen before.
In my top 3 Bowie albums and top 3 albums of the decade. _________________ All time

Pretty much my take too. The title track quickly became one of my favourite ever songs, and like you i was never really into Bowie.

Maybe because it's still 'new'. I think in 10-years-time you might think differently. It's an insanely tight, powerful, dynamic and varied record. It's truly become my favourite by Bowie. Lazarus is a song of the decade contender for me. _________________ Doubles & Conch

Yeah, I say that it's not a classic because I see Blackstar as being in the lineage of grown-up, contemplative "rock" albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Automatic for the People and OK Computer. I think it's a very good example of this kind of album but it's not really a game changer for me. I prefer to see Bowie's classics as the albums when he was genuinely exciting at the time and setting trends.
