Art Brut, back when they were young, dumb, and full of, erm, fun. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
There's little that can match the aggressive joy of debut Art Brut and "Formed a Band", I've definitely come around to The Mantle after being a bit of an Agalloch skeptic in the past but it still seems like a somewhat strange choice for a song-based tournament
Never heard agalloch before but after a listen I feel like I heard it just by looking at the artist photo. Art brut made me hungry so it’s an easy vote from me _________________ kill yr idols
I was just about to say how I'm very positively surprised cause Agalloch (metal, black metal band even) leads against the easy listening BEA-type indie, and how BEA has finally broadened its limited core indie/rock taste, but well... _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart

BEA is still very elementary in what its core audience can appreciate in metal. Even Pitchfork has more depth in that category.
This is still the wrong Agalloch song to represent the band and the decade, however.
"easy-listening indie rock" is not how I would describe Art Brut at all, yes there's a simplicity to their songs on Bang Bang but a kind of aggresive, eager yet still pithy brilliance to their lyrics and sound that makes it completely unique if certainly not the most musically dexterous and studied. They weren't able to build on that sound at all, but damn if it still doesn't sound great nearly a decade and half later. Again though this is indeed a hard comparison, I think Agalloch would have a better shot if it were competing Album-to-Album although this indiviual song is still very good. But I voted for Art Brut, LOOK AT ME, I voted fo... I'll stop.

I’m not taking a dig at Art Brut, I like that song, but compared to some things we have in this tournament it’s really straightforward and, more importantly, it’s what BEA users are comfortable with. And my little rant sounded way more serious than it was supposed to, sorry However I don’t see how this particular Agalloch song isn’t a good representation of the 2000s and Agalloch’s own opus or how it doesn’t work separated from the album. Sure The Mantle is a really well crafted album and You Were But A Ghost... sounds even better in that context, but it’s not like you cannot listen to it on its own and thoroughly enjoy it. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
