This was my first album I bought on CD. Tracy combines very simple song structures with minimal instrumentation and strong lyrics. The DDD recording ist brilliant and I still listen to this CD very often when I set up a new hifi system.

My earliest memory of Tracy Chapman is Fast Car coming on "The Coffeehouse" or whatever it was called in Sirius XM. I was in the car with my mom.

Halfway through the song, 13-year-old-me has decided it's great, so I announce

"this is great"

to which she responded

"ugh, I hate Tracy Chapman"

and immediately changed the channel, lol.

I didn't rediscover her music with any seriousness for another 8 or 9 years, which is too bad. I could've really benefited from hearing this record as an impressionable teen

awesome album
they used to play it all the time at my local Wimpy burger bar back in the day.
Then it became a Burger King.
But burger stories aside this album still gives me tingles
And I remember when they brought her on at the last minute at the Nelson Mandela tribute concert in '88 or whenever it was.
It was just her and an acoustic guitar. Man, she was electric.
Totally blew me away.
