Yes, Runaway may be the ultimate (as the artist formerly known as LethalNezzle once coined) BAWP-hop anthem, but it has the right amount of sleek-yet-infinite aplomb and detailed arrogance to make it work, even if it's not my personal favorite off of Beautiful Dark. Still easily gets my over National's competant wallpaper sadsack rock, just accepted that I will never get into their music as admittedly well-crafted as it usually turns out to be.
Why has nobody else seemed to realise that 'Blame Game' is clearly the heart and soul of that Kanye album and its best song to boot?
Anyway, Kanye's 'Runaway' is still better than The National's.

Devil In a New Dress is so underrated. There are a few songs I thought about nominating from MBDTF but I decided to leave it to other people. Runaway isn't one of my favorites but I've always found The National's version to be a bit long and boring compared to their other songs (in before "boring compared to other The National songs" being a high bar to clear comments). Vote to Kanye. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
There's stuff that I've always disliked about Runaway, and MBDTF in general. Kanye can't sing for shit, and this is the song that suffers the most from it. The end draws out, and I don't think Kanye making his voice sound like a guitar was half as smart as some people say . Kanye's first verse is not one of his best moments. Pusha's verse is his 2nd best on the album. That all being said, it's still a great track and one of the best on the album.
The National's Runaway is a decent National song, well composed and has some bells and whistles which keep me entertained throughout. However I've never been a big fan, and I don't find this one good enough to beat the other Runaway.
I don't love everything Kanye does, but Runaway is pretty masterful.
I really enjoy everything The National has done (aside from the really early stuff), and Runaway is no exception even if I wouldn't rank it amongst my favorite National songs.
