Going with the Castles/Cure dream-team electro-ballad, always have a soft spot for CC, while I didn't know Jon Spencer was still making music into the 2010s and this is... okay? I guess. But no contest.
This is going to sound cheesy, but that punchy track of Crystal Castles x Robert Smith covering Platinum Blonde changed a lot about how I thought about music. Given it was nearly 10 years ago now, and maybe I wasn't as correct as I thought I'd be, it felt like this obvious key to where music would be headed (along with MPP). I've listened to that track a lot, to the point I near studied it 🤣 . I've even stockpiled a handful of personal production queues based on it. I think it's brilliant. And I don't think many artists have done that style anywhere near the justice Crystal Castles did in their early years.
This was a harder choice than I expected given the comments - the Jon Spencer song is a lot of fun. Went with Crystal Castles though. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
