This slice of charming, sloppy, mulleted lad-rock from The Chats makes for a fun nomination.

Hi is a masterwork among Diamond's strong discography, and one of the highlights of PC Music as a label and bubblegum bass as a genre. Diamond's blunt lyrics and crystalline vocals are wrapped in an exquisite banger of an instrumental, and the song culminates in a killer hook. At its release in 2015, Hi was a post-ironic reflection/commentary on internet culture, loneliness, authenticity, alienation, and related themes. It feels even more apt in 2020, and really hits different for anyone experiencing dating/lack thereof or increased social isolation in the context of the pandemic. A quarantine anthem that's downright prescient, and a damn good song.

This slice of charming, polished pop from Hannah makes for a fun nomination. Still prefer GFOTY though.

Smoko is a masterwork amongst a sea of shite. Eamonโ€™s slice-of-life musings and crystalline mullet are wrapped in fag ends and the whiff of VB, and the song culminates in the same terrace chant-like โ€˜chorusโ€™ previously repeated about 30 times already.

At its release, Smoko was (and still is) a post-ironic commentary on being on the dole and the self-imposed loneliness and isolation which comes with wanting time to yourself for a cig. It feels even more apt in 2020, and really hits home for anyone experiencing people getting on your tits amidst endless Zoom calls for work. An anthem that's downright Australian, and a fucking ripper.

Smoko is one of the most fun tracks I've heard in the last decade. As Jimmy pointed out, it's also a great social commentary track. I like Hannah Diamond, but not that much, The Chats all the way. I actually wanted to buy that yellow shirt ever since I've seen the video for the first time, but no one seems to sell it ๐Ÿ˜

I'll probably be voting for Smoko in every round realistically.

Both tracks are fucking brilliant. Leaning towards 'Hi' at the moment, but will come back.

Yeah both of these are great. Leaning Hannah Diamond though as Smoko hits less hard when you're trying to quit ๐Ÿคฃ Gonna wait a while.

๐Ÿคฃ ...well-played Jimmy

Both tracks have been stuck in my head on and off since the matchup went up.

Any other releases or tracks by The Chats you consider essential? For Hannah Diamond I'd say her album Reflections and her non-album single Every Night.
