This actually is one of the most small-C-catholic lists I've seen here, TBH. It doesn't "check the boxes" for me personally, though (there's no XTC on it for example, and the only shoegaze album is the almost-obligatory Loveless). There are also a handful of "emperor's new clothes" albums on it — I won't say which ones, hopefully I don't need to. But aside from the large number of genres represented, he's got The Mighty Sparrow in there (I don't even have that myself! ...yet), and The Bends instead of OK Computer, so there's definitely some high-level-coolness effort going on as well.

I'm not suggesting that more people actually emulate this kind of approach to list-making, but it's a good approach nonetheless.
