Post subject: A breath of fresh air in the early 90's
Just listened to this one for the first time. It's definitely lifted up by its hit singles "Linger" and "Dreams," which demonstrate the Cranberries' songwriting chops more than some of the other tracks. But there are some inspired B-sides on this one, particularly "Wanted" and the opener "I Still Do." The album is a breath of fresh air from early 90's grunge-mania, throwing back to the Smiths' jangly sound mixed with Julee Cruise-inspired dreampop. Dolores O'Riordan's voice really is a haunting treasure that stays with you long after the last track. I did end up ordering the Island Records 25th anniversary vinyl of this one after hearing it once, if that's any endorsement.
