we've all probably experienced this. you read some rave reviews, or a friend flipped out about some release, so you went out and bought the album. you were so excited to spin it.

it was... ok.

but over time, it took root in your soul and grew into a monster. a greatest of all time album. a "what didn't i hear the first time cause this is incredible?"

if you have experienced this, what's an example? maybe share a story. or don't.

Almost every album needs a 2nd or 3rd listen for me, but I listen passively a lot. Best example of all time for a grower is Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica IMO

If it's not worth listening to it twice, it's not worth listening to it once.

Hounds Of Love was a major grower for me, from merely pleasant to a personal favorite.

Applause

Also... there's a great snip on this in the show Loudermilk. I'll post a clip if I can find it. CADreamin' reminds me of one of the characters actually.

still waiting for Kid A to do that.... but plenty of albums here over the years have been growers. 10,000 Hz Legend by Air probably one I can most remember as a grower (a while back) after somebody was saying it was better than Moon Safari.

(Love Loudermilk btw!)

Lots of albums have grown on me after a lukewarm first impression.
