I made a chart with the most listened to albums from 2014 to 2024 out of the data provided by you members in the "What album are you listening to?" thread.

Before you click on the link, what do you think the Top 3 looks like? Any thoughts on the chart? Let me know.

https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=82231

I wrote a blog post on how I came to compile this chart which you can find here:

Pretty cool...thanks for doing this! That thread is, I believe, central to the pulse of BEA. Or, at least, it could be.

I think your research shows, more than anything, that the thread is used more by people who are in the mainstream with their listening habits. A lot of people on site don't post there, and I know that many of them are people who have more eclectic tastes. I do wish more people would use that thread...it's quite amazing, and I believe fully that it could be the single best place on BEA for album recommendations. It's already close, but it could be so much more.

In the earlier days of BEA, many more people posted there. But it took a long time before anyone realized you could simply do a search and immediately post the BEA link to the album, complete with artwork. That's normal now, but for the early years, no one did that. I don't know if it was available back then. So I'm sure that the early years of the thread were not included in your data. Also, because more people posted there, there was also much more discussion on the thread than there is today.

Again...thank you for putting this together. Also again...I encourage users to post on this thread. When you put an album on. Takes just seconds.

AM...please tell me that the original thread still exists somewhere...I, for one, still reference it on a regular basis...plus it's historical value is huge! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Apologies, the thread is temporarily disabled as it's causing massive performance issues. It'll be re-enabled when the underlying code (third party forum software) has been optimised (right now it's bringing the whole site to a halt when people browse it, so the better of two evils is to temporarily disable it to allow the site to function, which is also why the continuation thread was spawned).

Great idea. Well done Al Green for crashing the top 25 with an album ranked at almost 7000.

I would post in that thread more often but pasting the album art has never worked from my mobile device for some reason.

Actually...you don't have to do that!

You can type in the box above labeled "Insert BEA link" until the album you want shows up. Click that, and it puts the album art and a BEA link to the album page onto your post. Then just send and done!

Al Green is the man.

Actually, this is not really correct. There are more than 40,000 different albums that appeared in the thread. But almost by definition those with eclectic tastes do not vote for the same records. What the data shows is that there are a few dozen people who are responsible for the chart as it is.

But I agree with you, of course, more people should post what they are listening to.

Oh my goodness what a brilliant idea and post. Well done!

I've looked back many times at the OG thread and the people posting seemed to interact with each other a lot more. Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems to me that posting the album art gets in the way of the original spirit of the thread. Certainly I'd be more inclined to use this thread if it was more text based and centered around conversation rather than just a huge album cover that we've often already seen countless times.

Wow, really cool idea! I enjoy your blog post where you detail the technical stuff and how you handled the data.

Also somehow that Al Green album is the only one I haven't listened to/rated, despite it being on my wishlist. Time to remedy that
