"Dead Man Rising" blew me away the first time I heard it. David Phelps is one of the best vocalists in the business, but I haven't always loved his song choices. In fact, I don't like some of his songs at all and I think he wastes his talent on some of the songs he sings. But this one, I absolutely love.
Yeah easy vote for Laura Marling here, really like the song. Dead Man Rising is way too overproduced and over the top for what it is in my opinion. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
Patterns in Repeat is another Laura Marling masterpiece. Child of Mine is one of the highlights. It would take a lot to beat it, and Dead Man Rising just doesn't do it for me. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
It's okay. She dislikes most music that isn't about Jesus and finds much of what users here choose to listen to obscene and offensive. She'll remind you of that. A lot.
Don't like her voice? Fine.
But dismissing music because of a single word without even considering the context is sad. Especially since she's not using it as an insult to any person...she's using it positively to say that her life is great. So you dismiss a mother writing a song of love to her daughter because she says "bitchin'"... that's severe. And yeah. At least that song isn't yet another of the 8 million retreaded songs about Jesus. We get it. He had a famous dad and supposedly died for our sins. Cool. Now please write a song about something else. Anything else.
(THAT should offend you. Not Laura Marling saying that life is good.)

Last night in your sleep, you started crying
I can't protect you there, though I keep trying
Sometimes you'll go places I can't get to
But I've spoken to the angels who'll protect you
Because you're mine
They cast their golden light across this child
I'll take that over

They laid His battered corpse
There on that borrowed stone-cold bed
And I'm the guard they chose
To make sure He stayed dead
