BEA has never really had a problem with the amount of guests on the site. Since I joined the guests have usually been in the hundreds and the ratio of registered users to guests is 1:20. My idea is that for guests viewing the website there should be constant reminders to register for the site

agree, there are a few nags already, but probably needs to be a bit more pushy.

Make sure they know how easy it is to become a member and the benefits of membership.

At the moment, many aspects of the site are taking a back seat because pretty much all my available time is spent on the technical and support/maintenance elements of BEA (i,e. keeping the site running and improving the functionality).

FWIW, this is the current copy (minus the formatting and graphics):

Code:

This page is for members only!

Not a member? Registering is quick, easy and FREE!

Why register?
Create your own chart.
Comment on or rate any album, band, track or chart.
Identify albums that aren't in your collection or you haven't heard yet.
Create a wish list of albums.
Post comments in the forums and vote on polls.
Help maintain the BEA database.
... And lots more!

Register now!

This is another reason why the site needs to be worked on full-time. BEA has completely outgrown the spare-time hobby it started out as. Unfortunately, the promotional and marketing side of BEA is one of many neglected areas because my time is currently spread too thinly.

I've always noticed that our Guests number is always high. Like, 16-20 guests on for every 2 members.

So..If any guests are creeping this topic, JOIN NOW! Very Happy

I think that's pretty normal for every site. And maybe some of the guests are members that aren't logged in

Yeah, like me when I'm at my aunt's house.

And yes, it's pretty normal, but yeah, I'd like to see more of these guests registering. It would be great Very Happy

at the moment, there are about 200-300 new users a month signing up, and that number has been pretty consistent for a while.

Yes, probably need to design some better nag-screens and improve the copywriting etc. I sometimes get a bit too close to the site to get a stranger's view of it, so the bullets might not be the most attractive benefits of BEA to an outsider.
