It's that wonderful time of year where all the music publications put out their top albums of the year lists! Figured I'd create a thread for us to keep track of them since a lot of the big ones are out such aaaaaas:
(this sounds like I'm badmouthing The Quietus but honestly it's just the opposite, I love them and their list is always the most interesting list every year) _________________ Progressive Rock
My biggest takeaway from a lot of these lists - I really need to give that Geese album another listen, cause I thought it was solid but not AOTY material _________________ Progressive Rock

It's not bad, for what it is โย it kinda sounds like what we might have had if Animal Collective or The Dodos had abducted Rufus Wainwright in the mid-2000s and forced him to be their lead singer instead of allowing him to have a successful solo career. So it's interesting, but I think your initial reaction was right, it's not AOTY material unless you're really, really into that sort of thing.
I also agree with you about The Quietus, btw โย I'm glad they exist, and a lot of avant-garde/experimental artists might not appear on anybody's year-end list at all if not for them, but if you don't know that going in you might end up listening to some pretty inaccessible stuff in the hopes of "educating" yourself, when in fact your tastes are really not all that conventional and you probably shouldn't worry so much about not knowing who 80 percent of these people are.

As someone who typically isn't into that kinda stuff, I think it's a great record, and hope it ends up as most publication's AOTYโ
Winter & Geese are on a rollโ

Yeah, me too. I canโt remember the last time I enjoyed a fairly standard indie rock record this much. There are some excellent krautrock-inspired jams, some wonderfully weird ballads, and Cameron Winterโs eccentric vocals steal the show. For what it is, itโs an impressively varied record and every track is a banger. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
This ain't exactly a 2025 list, but RA made best songs of the century so far. A decent and pretty interesting selection, much better than I expected, honestly. While listening through their picks, I ended up putting together my own top 100 for no real reason other than wanting to share and discuss it with a few friends, I guess. And because their Burial pick intrigued me (South London Boroughs is an essential song, certainly, but I'm not sure it's his best).

I don't think we've had a discussion about electronic/club music on BEA in a long time. Did anyone check this RA list? What did you think and do yall have any recs?
Thanks! I'm working on a variation where you build a top 10 one at a time based on different categories so that it's a bit more engaging, hopefully will have that done soon!
